PlayStation has had some outstanding exclusive franchises over the years, but most would agree that God of War is among the most prominent of them. Even the last game, released in 2022, was a big hit and showed great numbers.

In fact, fans were so hyped about God of War: Ragnarok that it led to a half-million boost in PS5 sales at the time of its release. It also sold over 11 million copies in just 6 months, and drove over $10 million in accessory revenue.

Why it matters: God of War: Ragnarok is often cited as the best PS5 exclusive released to date, and that shows from the overall sales and audience reactions. It also shows how good exclusives can drive console sales.

This information comes through Denise Barcellos, an ex-PlayStation director. In his job experiences, he detailed working on God of War: Ragnarok, revealing how the title led to a significant boost on PS5 hardware.

To date, the title sold over 15 million units by November 2023, but later it was also released on PC, so we can expect the present numbers to be significantly higher, but this showcases the impact of exclusives too.

God of War is among the most influential PlayStation exclusives to date

Xbox exclusives weren’t really taking off on its consoles, so they had to go totally multiplatform, but Sony has still franchises that it knows will leave a mark, signifying how important the hardware is for Sony.

Anhow, exclusives are still a huge emphasis for Sony, and it will continue to remain so as their consoles and titles both sell well. The company is reportedly working on the next God of War game set in Egypt, which could be a PS6 release.
