Sony Disappointed By Destiny 2 Engagement Numbers, Reports An Impairment Loss of $204 Million

Story Highlight
  • Sony says it’s unhappy with Destiny 2’s performance and has lowered sales targets.
  • The low sales and engagement have led to an impairment loss of over $204 million.
  • Despite this, the partnership remains safe as Bungie prepares to launch Marathon.

Sony’s Bungie acquisition is one of the most talked-about things in the gaming industry, and all for the wrong reasons. Since it happened in 2022, things haven’t really worked out for either of them as a team, and things are getting worse.

Destiny 2, once a massive driver of sales and players, has now shown a lot of deterioration in recent years. Sony says it is disappointed with the game’s sales and engagement numbers and has recorded an impairment loss.

Why it matters: Destiny 2 recently hit its lowest player count ever, and fans also complained that they don’t trust Bungie anymore, highlighting the current state of the once-loved title.

Sony is unhappy with Destiny 2 sales and has lowered the previously set targets

Sony CFO Lin Tao, via Q&A from the recent Financial Report, stated that Destiny 2 is underperforming expectations, engagement is at its lowest, and the company is facing an impairment loss of over $204 million on a portion of assets.

The abysmal performance even led Sony to downwardly revise Bungie‘s targets. The impairment loss was the main reason why PlayStation’s gaming segment and services saw a drop in operating profit in Q2 2025.

However, Tao continued that the partnership still remains strong and they will continue to support Bungie. The studio is currently working on Marathon, which, despite some internal doubts, is still slated for a 2026 release

It means that Sony still believes that Bungie can bounce back. Destiny 2 is also set to get its next major update, which is Star Wars themed, and that will definitely give the player base a slight push once again.

PS5 Sales Top 84.2 Million; Now Tracking Behind PS4 By Only 2 Million

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation 5 sold over 3.9 million units during the second quarter of 2025, bumping the overall figure to 84.2 million
  • It is Sony’s fifth best-selling console and is tracking behind the PS4 by only 2 million units shipped in the same period.
  • PlayStation also maintained a consistent 119 million monthly active users.

The PS5 has continued to perform well despite hardware shortages earlier in its lifetime, followed by multiple price increases over the years. Its sales performance has remained steady and somewhat close to the last-gen platform, and the new milestone further cements that.

The console has now shipped over 84.2 million units worldwide. In other words, it is now only tracking behind the PS4 by 2 million if launch timelines are aligned. Multiple successful Sony exclusives have contributed to millions of new PS5 sales over the years.

Why it matters: The PS5 sales trajectory shows it still has strong legs and continues to sell units consistently like the PS4. PlayStation also generated $4.27 billion in revenue from game software during the last quarter.

PlayStation 5 sold over 3.9 million units last quarter, bumping up the total figure to 84.2 million.

The new Q2 2025 Sony report shows that the PS5 sold 3.9 million units during the quarter, which is a staggering 1.4 million increase from the first quarter this year. Additionally, the console sold 0.1 million more than the Q2 of last year, showing a steady growth over time.

It now ranks as Sony’s 5th best-selling console, trailing behind the PS2 (160 million), PS4 (117.2 million), original PlayStation (102 million), and PS3 (87.4 million).

PS5 may soon surpass the PS4’s sales—which were 86.2 million at the same period—over the next quarter. The next big push to the PS5 sales will likely happen during the approaching holiday period.

The growth trajectory also continued in gaming, with 6.3 million first-party game sales, a million higher than Q2 2024. Overall, over 80.3 million game sales were recorded during the last quarter.

Sony’s Game and Network Services sales breakdown for Q2 2025.

PS5’s stable performance shows that Sony is in no hurry to launch the next iteration and plans to expand its lifecycle even further. Sony CFO Lin Tao clarified that the console is in the middle of its journey, and many users still enjoy the console.

Do you think the PS5 will finally surpass the PS4’s sales timeline in the next quarter, or will it continue to track behind? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Sony Plans To Expand PS5 Life Cycle, Says Its Only In The Middle

Story Highlight
  • In its new financial report, Sony has announced it plans to expand the PS5 generation.
  • According to the Japanese giant, the console is still in the middle of its journey.
  • This also indicates that the PS6 won’t be launching until 2029.

There has been a lot of debate regarding when the next-gen consoles will launch, with both Xbox and PlayStation keeping their plans private. Xbox has at least hinted that its upcoming hardware is going to be a PC/console hybrid.

However, Sony has been quiet about the PS6, with information only coming from insiders, who believe that the console will be half the price of the new Xbox. The Japanese giant has finally opened up about its next-gen plans, and from the looks of it, we might have to wait a while.

Why It Matters: Extending the PS5 generation is a risky decision from Sony, as the technical power of the console can become obsolete.

ps5 pro amd fsr update
Sony’s PS5 Pro is expected to carry the generation to 2029.

While talking about its Q2 finances for Fiscal Year 2026, Sony CFO Lin Tao revealed that the company plans to extend the life cycle of the PS5. The CFO stated that Sony believes PlayStation 5 is only in the middle of its journey and will continue to expand it further.

We believe the PS5 is only in the middle of the journey, and plan to expand it even further.

Tao reiterated that many active users are enjoying the console, and because of this, Sony doesn’t see a reason to stop soon. This info does line up with what insiders have previously stated about a late 2029 launch for next-gen hardware.

The release of the PS5 Pro also plays a hand in this decision, according to previous reports, as its hardware capacity can support this current-gen until 2029. And, with the standard console also performing brilliantly for AAA titles, Sony’s decision does make sense.

The Japanese giant is already planning to support the console with big names like Marvel’s Wolverine and Saros, as well as third-party ventures like GTA 6, which will give the PlayStation 5 a late surge in 2026

Wolverine feat
Sony is planning to support the generation with AAA titles like Wolverine.

With the development of the new Xbox proceeding at full steam, it will be interesting to see which brand releases its console first and eclipses the technical problems of the current-gen.

Ghost of Yotei Sells Over 3.3 Million Copies Since Release Last Month

Story Highlight
  • Ghost of Yotei has now officially sold over 3.3 million copies since its launch last month.
  • The game has performed well for a sequel, maintaining Ghost of Tsushima’s sales momentum.
  • We may see the entry hit over 5 million copies sold before 2026 because of the approaching holiday season.

Ghost of Yotei’s player reception remained quite positive despite all the controversy, as it quickly became a top-seller in multiple countries. It sold over a million copies in only a single day and became Sony’s biggest first-party launch in Europe since Spider-Man 2.

Now, a new sales update confirms that Ghost of Yotei has officially rolled over 3.3 million copies since coming out last month. This means the sequel has sold a healthy amount of units despite the initial hype dying down after its first week.

Why it matters: Ghost of Yotei selling over 3.3 million copies shows that many gamers have enjoyed Atsu’s story despite the boycott movement working against it. The boycott appears to have had little to no effect on the sales numbers.

Ghost of Yotei
Ghost of Yotei has now officially sold over 3.3 million copies worldwide.

Sony’s Q2 2025 report reveals the new Ghost of Yotei sales figures as of 2 November 2025, which means the 3.3 million units were sold within only 32 days after its arrival. The sales line up quite well because Yotei sold over a million faster than Ghost of Tsushima.

To put things into perspective, Tsushima launched during the COVID period without facing any competition. Meanwhile, the sequel had to compete with Assassin’s Creed Shadows and manage several controversies.

Ghost of Yotei is now expected to sell 5 million copies by the end of 2025, with a large influx likely coming during the upcoming holiday period. It would be faster than Tsushima since it sold 5 million copies during its first 4 months.

Millions of gamers have enjoyed Atsu’s revenge story.

The community is celebrating the new Ghost of Yotei sales figure on social media. Additionally, the positive sales reception will likely convince Sucker Punch to go ahead with a DLC continuing Atsu’s journey.

Do you think Ghost of Yotei will sell 5 million copies within this year, or is that too big an estimate? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

The PS Portal Just Got Its Biggest Upgrade Yet

Story Highlights
  • Sony enables full PlayStation Cloud Streaming on PS Portal, ending its PS5 dependency.
  • The update transforms Portal into a true handheld for travelers and cloud-first gamers.
  • Early tests show strong performance on Wi-Fi 6, but 5G results vary.
  • A new market opens for players who don’t own a PlayStation console.

For almost a year, the PS Portal was a riddle. A beautiful screen with no brain of its own. A handheld that couldn’t play unless your PS5 was on at home. But as of November 5, 2025, that changes. Sony’s new update enables full PlayStation Cloud Streaming on the Portal, turning it from a remote mirror into a true standalone handheld.

It’s the biggest transformation the device has seen since launch, and it might finally give it the identity it always needed.

What Happened

PlayStation Portal

On November 5, Sony confirmed via the official PlayStation Blog that Cloud Streaming is now live on the PS Portal in supported regions. That means players can stream PS5 and PS4 titles directly from Sony’s cloud servers without needing a console at home.

The rollout includes full integration with PlayStation Plus Premium, the only subscription tier that supports cloud play. Sony also published a setup guide the same day, detailing how users can activate the feature via firmware update 2.0.

It’s a surprisingly swift evolution. The PS Portal launched in late 2023 as a dedicated Remote Play device, meant to stream games from your own PS5 over a local or remote connection. At the time, Sony dismissed questions about cloud support, saying the hardware was “optimized for console owners.” Two years later, that narrative has flipped.

Why It Matters

This update instantly removes the biggest barrier to owning a PS Portal: you no longer need a PS5. That alone opens the door to millions of potential users, especially those who game primarily through cloud services like Xbox Cloud Gaming or GeForce NOW.

For frequent travelers, it’s an even bigger deal. You can now pack the Portal and jump into Spider-Man 2 or Horizon Forbidden West from a hotel room, airport lounge, or coffee shop, without worrying about whether your console back home is powered on.

It’s also a major strategic shift for Sony. The company has been cautious with cloud gaming, often letting Microsoft and Nvidia define the space. This move shows real intent to compete. Instead of positioning the PS Portal as a niche accessory, Sony is repositioning it as the entry point to the PlayStation ecosystem, no console required.

How It Performs

Performance depends entirely on your connection. Digital Foundry measured about 60–80 milliseconds of extra input lag under ideal conditions, even with a wired PS5 and the Portal close to the router. That’s roughly four to five frames of delay, fine for slower titles, noticeable in shooters or racers. Wired found similar results. Even with a 500 Mbps home network, testers saw stuttering, blur, and occasional input lag while cloud streaming.

There’s still no verified data comparing Wi-Fi 6 to 5G performance. Reviews agree the Portal feels best on a strong home network, with results varying widely on mobile data. Despite its limits, the crisp 8-inch display and DualSense haptics make it far more comfortable than a phone-plus-controller setup.

The Cost Equation

So, where does the PS Portal fit in now? Here’s the math:

  • PS Portal ($199.99) + PS Plus Premium ($17.99/month) = Instant access to hundreds of PS4 and PS5 titles via the cloud.
  • Backbone + Smartphone = Cheaper upfront, but relies on a less stable mobile app and an inconsistent controller feel.
  • Steam Deck + Remote Play = More flexibility, but a heavier setup and shorter battery life.

In short, the Portal now makes sense for players who value simplicity and want a “PlayStation-only” handheld that just works. It’s not for tinkerers or modders. It’s for people who want to dive into a game without configuring VPNs or juggling input devices.

The Catch

PlayStation Family Devices

There are still limits. Cloud library availability varies by region. Sony’s servers remain concentrated in North America, Western Europe, and parts of Asia, which means latency will be higher in unsupported territories.

The device also remains locked to Sony’s ecosystem; there’s no Netflix, YouTube, or browser app. You can’t download games locally, either. Everything still depends on the cloud, which means a bad connection equals a bad experience.

And while cloud gaming has improved dramatically, it still can’t fully replace native play. Action-heavy games like Demon’s Souls or Helldivers 2 demand precision that even the best networks sometimes can’t guarantee.

What’s Next

With this update, Sony has effectively breathed new life into the PS Portal right before the holiday season. Expect fresh marketing pushes and possibly new bundles that pair the Portal with PS Plus Premium trials.

Looking ahead, the real test will be how Sony expands its cloud infrastructure. If the company can reduce latency and improve bitrate consistency, the Portal could become a true rival to Xbox’s cloud-first approach.

For now, though, the transformation is undeniable. The PS Portal has gone from an accessory to an independent console, one that travels with you, connects you instantly, and finally feels like the future Sony promised.

Bethesda Reiterates Elder Scrolls 6 Still Long Way Off; Asks Fans To Remain Patient

Story Highlight
  • Bethesda’s Todd Howard has revealed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still quite far from its release.
  • The director hopes fans will remain patient and avoid feeling anxious over the RPG.
  • He also confirmed that the team recently held a major play test for the title.

The Elder Scrolls 6 was first announced over seven full years ago, but Bethesda has only made a little progress on the project so far. Although the team continues to move forward with development, fans have grown restless with the lack of actual information on the title.

In a recent interview, Bethesda yet again confirmed that fans are in for a longer waiting period. The team suggests that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a few years away.

Why it matters: The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim shook the RPG world when it originally debuted in 2011. Needless to say, expectations are high for the follow-up to one of the industry’s best RPGs.

Elder Scrolls 6
The Elder Scrolls 6 Could Be Bethesda’s Biggest Release

During his latest interview, Todd Howard discussed the current state of The Elder Scrolls 6. He stated that the RPG is ‘still a long way off,’ encouraging fans to practice patience on the matter.

On a more positive note, he also confirmed that Bethesda held a major play test for the title recently. The director did not say much else, but he assured fans that the team is attempting to make a great game.

According to Todd Howard, great games are at their best when they are played, and this exact philosophy is being used in the development process of The Elder Scrolls 6.

Elder Scrolls 6 is still a long way off. I’m preaching patience.

-Todd Howard

Previously, The Elder Scrolls 6 was expected to arrive at some point in 2028. However, going by the director’s latest statement, these estimates may have been a bit too generous.

Elder Scrolls
Skyrim Will Be Nearly Twenty Years Old By The Time Its Successor Arrives

Many fans believe the game will launch later since Bethesda has its hands full with multiple projects. The studio also appears to be taking longer and longer with each new AAA project, with The Elder Scrolls 6 being its most ambitious and time-consuming development.

What do you think about Bethesda’s progress so far? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Fallout 3 Remaster From Bethesda Currently In Active Development

Story Highlight
  • A recent interview by Todd Howard teases multiple Fallout projects.
  • One of these projects appears to be Fallout 3 Remastered.
  • The remaster is said to be similar in scope and scale to The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Remastered, which was more than a basic re-release.

Fans of the Fallout series have been starved for new gaming content. Besides Fallout 76, the series has yet to receive much attention in the gaming sphere lately, but that seems to be changing quite rapidly.

According to Bethesda, a major remaster of Fallout 3 is currently being worked on.

Why it matters: This is not the first time discussions regarding a remaster of Fallout 3 have shown up. In fact, the remaster has been rumored for quite some time, so fans are quite happy with the latest report.

Fallout 3
Fallout 3 Is Among Bethesda’s Best-Rated Releases

According to VGC, Todd Howard himself has hinted at a Fallout 3 remaster. It is said that this remaster will follow the same philosophy as The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Remastered, making it more interesting than the average remaster.

For context, much of Oblivion was built from the ground up for the Unreal Engine 5-based remaster. Therefore, fans can expect similar treatment for Fallout 3, creating excitement within the fandom.

As per Todd Howard, Bethesda has hundreds of people working on the Fallout IP currently. This also includes Fallout 76, which continues to show strong results several years into its lifespan.

We have hundreds of people on Fallout right now, with 76 and some other things (Fallout 3 Remastered) we’re doing.

-Todd Howard

Many Fans Have Been Waiting For A Fallout 3 Remaster

Elsewhere, Todd Howard discussed plans for The Elder Scrolls 6. At present, Bethesda hopes to wrap up development of the next Elder Scrolls title and transition to work on Fallout 5.

Of course, this will require several years of active development, so fans should stay tuned for Fallout 3 Remastered for now.

Ex-PlayStation Boss Says Stellar Blade Has Helped Inspire A New Wave of Korean Studios

Story Highlight
  • Former PlayStation head says Stellar Blade has had a lasting impact on Korean market.
  • It has helped inspire a new wave of studios as they had hoped in internal discussions.
  • The title helped Shift Up with record sales, and the sequel is also in the works.

Stellar Blade was released last year to massive success from both audiences and critics. It also achieved incredible sales, reporting record numbers for the studio. The title has also been an enormous driver for Korean studios.

Former PlayStation boss says that Stellar Blade isn’t just one successful title; it represents the entire Korean gaming industry and has helped inspire new Korean studios to pursue their ambitions, which was previously considered a risk.

Why it matters: Since the arrival of games like Lies of P and Stellar Blade, the Asian game developers have left a significant mark on the industry, and that impact could increase even more in the future.

Stellar Blade
Stellar Blade has left a massive impact on the Korean gaming industry

In an interview with Minimap, Shuhei Yoshida talked about the impact of Stellar Blade on the Korean gaming industry. He said that during development, they discussed that if it succeeds, it could help build a new market.

I believe it represents more than just one successful title. In my view, every Korean creator owes something to Stellar Blade’s influence.

– Shuhei Yoshida

Yoshida said that he is glad that the impact finally materialized into something, and all present Korean creators owe something to Stellar Blade‘s influence. Korea is also very active and supportive of game development.

AAA Korean Games
Korean Games have had a great influence on the industry in recent years

This is quite different from the Japanese market, where the studios don’t get a lot of support, so in this way, the Korean developers are quite lucky, and this has helped them grow into a huge industry.

Some recent examples of great games that have come from Korean studios include The First Berserker: Khazan, InZoi, and more. We are also getting Crimson Desert and a Stellar Blade sequel, highlighting the significance of this region.

ARC Raiders Breaks Another Record, Crosses Helldivers 2 Peak Player

Story Highlight
  • ARC Raiders has managed to surpass Helldivers 2’s all-time player peak of 458,709.
  • It has also beaten Battlefield 6’s peak players in recent days, managing a great feat.
  • Fans love the game so much that they’ve hailed it as the Game of the Year.

ARC Raiders has emerged as the most surprising hit of 2025. While the live service genre is super saturated at this point, it has become a standout for its great gameplay and a brilliant blend of PvE and PvP combat.

After recently beating Battlefield 6 in terms of player count, it has now managed another feat and beaten Helldiver 2′ all-time highest concurrent players on Steam, marking its place as the undisputed standout multiplayer for this year.

Why it matters: Live service games don’t really make it in the industry anymore, as we saw with Concord, unless you do things right. ARC Raiders hits all the basics well and has the potential to live for a long time.

ARC Raiders Players
ARC Raiders has crossed Helldivers 2’s peak player count and is still growing

Today, ARC Raiders hit a peak player count of 462,488, beating Helldiver 2’s 458,709 players. While the former has fewer reviews, they are generally more positive with a better universal reception as well.

ARC Raiders is also the highest-rated multiplayer game on Metacritic in almost a decade, with an 87 score, and is also being hailed as a contender for the Game of the Year award, which is huge praise for a multiplayer title.

Arc Raiders
Arc Raiders has been hailed as the GOTY by the fans

Interestingly, it is showing no signs of slowing either. Previously, Battlefield 6 was showing better numbers, but for the last couple of days, the extraction shooter has surpassed the player count, highlighting how big it has become.

Another thing that helps the game’s cause is its optimization. Despite having trimmed Unreal Engine 5 features, it looks really good, but more importantly, it runs fine on almost everything, even without upscaling.

What are your thoughts on ARC Raider beating Helldivers 2’s peak player count? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum

Arc Raiders Runs Smoothly Thanks to Trimmed Key Unreal Engine 5 Features, Analysis Reveals

Story Highlight
  • Digital Foundry did an analysis video on Arc Raiders.
  • They found out that Embark Studios cut down on key features like Nanite, Lumen, and Virtual Shadow Maps.
  • This resulted in a huge performance increase and virtually no stutters when testing.

2025 has been full of surprises for video games, at least. Closing in the year, everyone expected Battlefield 6 to take the gaming world by storm, but nobody saw Arc Raiders dethroning EA’s $400 million+ release. Embark Studios’ extraction shooter is amazing and has even managed to attract an audience uninterested in the genre.

Despite being an Unreal Engine 5 game, the performance aspect is brilliant. A new analysis video reveals that the reason why the game runs so buttery-smooth is that the developers discarded key Unreal Engine 5 features like Lumen, Nanite, and Virtual Shadow Maps.

Why it matters: Unreal Engine 5 gets more bad rep than it deserves, and most of the time, it’s the developers’ fault for shipping a clustered release. Lumen and Nanite are some of the most performance-draining features and will hog resources from even the most powerful desktop PCs.

Digital Foundry did a full-on breakdown video for Arc Raiders and found out that with capped FPS, the game has near-perfect frametime. Even on unlocked framerates, stutters tend to be unnoticeable and can pass as more of animation glitches. It seems that Embark Studios has broken down the Unreal Engine 5 stutter curse.

With key features from the engine removed, CPU performance is incredibly smooth. Lumen, Nanite, and Virtual Shadow Maps are pretty resource-intensive, more towards the CPU end. With the absence of these features, Arc Raiders runs incredibly well on even mid-range PCs. To further optimize, there are tons of settings to mess around with and find the perfect configuration that provides a performance boost for just a bit of visual tradeoff.

Arc Raiders
This Year’s GOTY Awards Will Be Exciting

Arc Raiders may not be the best-looking Unreal Engine 5 game, but for a multiplayer extraction-shooter, the graphics are still pretty stunning.

Previously, Palworld developer has also praised the game and stated that Embark Studios is setting a new benchmark for Unreal Engine 5 games. It is one of the reasons why the game sold 1.5 million copies in just three days of its launch and is the highest-rated multiplayer game in nearly a decade.

What are your thoughts on Arc Raiders? How well does the game run on your PCs? Let us know in the comments below, or at the official Tech4Gamers Forums.

The Witcher Viewership Declined By 50% In Season 4 Following Henry Cavill’s Departure

Story Highlight
  • The Witcher season 4 has had a 51% decline in viewers compared to season 3.
  • Only 7.6 million viewers tuned in to the show during the first four days, compared to the 15 million who tuned in when season 3 debuted.
  • Showrunners have hinted that season 5 will be the show’s end.

Despite all of its good fortune in the gaming industry, The Witcher has struggled to put a solid foot down in Hollywood. The franchise’s Netflix adaptation has been hit and miss so far, failing to make the same industry-wide impact that the video games had.

The show’s main lead, Henry Cavill, left after the third season due to disputes about the writing. And his replacement hasn’t done too well so far, as the Netflix series has lost most of its viewers.

Why it matters: The Witcher has been treated horribly by Netflix, and the writing team has failed to make a decent adaptation with unlimited money.

The Witcher Season 4 Viewership
The Witcher Season 4 viewership has tanked | Source: Netflix

The Witcher season 4’s viewership declined by 51% in season 4 following Henry Cavill’s removal from the show. According to official numbers provided by Netflix, 7.4 million viewers watched in the first four days of streaming.

Here’s how season 4 compares with previous seasons:

  • The Witcher Season 2: 18.8 million views
  • The Witcher Season 3 (Part 1): 15.92 million views
  • The Witcher Season 4: 7.4 million views

Considering how the third season debuted with 15.2 million viewers, The Witcher has lost half of its viewers. The show also debuted at No. 2 amongst English-language titles on Netflix, marking the first time the series has debuted at No. 2, after all previous seasons debuted at No. 1.

Hence, from the looks of it, replacing Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth isn’t working out too well for Netflix, and if comments from the showrunners are anything to go by, the next season of The Witcher may be the final one

It’s definitely disappointing to see such a beloved IP receive a poor adaptation from Netflix, especially given its massive fanbase. However, no matter how much the TV series declines, things are going pretty ok on the gaming side for The Witcher.

The Witcher season 4
The Witcher might end with season 5.

The Hype around The Witcher 4 has made CDPR one of the most valuable studios in Europe, and some of the best devs in the industry are working on the sequel. Hence, season 4 may be a bust, but the next game in the series is poised to win the players over.

Do you think The Witcher series is a faithful adaptation of the show? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Dispatch Season 2 Is Already Being Planned, Lead Dev Confirms

Story Highlight
  • AdHoc Studio is now planning season 2 for Dispatch following its staggering reception.
  • The team was unsure three weeks ago but is now seriously considering a second part after seeing high demand.
  • However, it is far from being in development as of now, so it may take a few years to arrive.

Despite some gamers being unhappy with its episodic nature, AdHoc’s Dispatch performed extraordinarily well after launch. The narrative experience hovers around superhero workplace comedy with hearty moments that unfold based on your every decision.

The engaging story has proven so popular that gamers have already been wondering if there’s more to come after the launch of the scheduled episodes. Fortunately, AdHoc has noticed the players’ insane demand and is now seriously considering a second season.

Why it matters: Dispatch’s positive reception among gamers shows that episodic games can pack a serious punch if done well. The demand for a second season has skyrocketed in the last few days.

In an interview with Skill Up on YouTube, AdHoc Studio’s co-founders made it clear that the developers were debating about a season 2 as long as three weeks ago.

However, the reception of each Dispatch episode since then has been spectacular in the gaming space, forcing the team to ‘at least think’ hard about a second season.

we’re going to have to at least think about Season 2 now.

-Pierre Shorette, AdHoc’s co-founder.

To put things into perspective, it already boasts a near-perfect rating on PS5, beating behemoths like Clair Obscur and Death Stranding 2 in the process. Additionally, many gamers are already considering it a strong GOTY contender for this year.

Dispatch
Dispatch has been received incredibly well by the industry so far.

On a sad note, we won’t likely see a second season for many years to come since it still has to be greenlit. So, it hasn’t even entered development yet.

AdHoc Studio has also revealed a project that takes place in Critical Role’s world of Exandria, which might be more of a priority moving forward.

Do you think that Dispatch will actually get a second season in the near future? Are you looking forward to it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
