Budget Keyboards Are Outclassing the Premiums

Story Highlights
  • Budget keyboards are now offering premium-level features at half the price.
  • Features such as gasket mounts, hot-swap pockets and sound damping are now becoming standard in affordable keyboards.
  • Premium brands are struggling to justify their high prices as budget keyboards are now comparable to them.
  • Custom budgeted keyboards now feature higher-quality stock switches and improved factory lubing.

Custom mechanical keyboards have long been considered just a niche luxury hobby. Enthusiasts used to buy aluminium cases, specialty cases, designer keycaps, and more for high prices.

These days, many budget keyboards, priced significantly under premium keyboards, offer the same experience. This has reduced the need for that “premium tag” as the gap between high-end and affordable has narrowed significantly.

Budget Custom Keyboards on The Rise

Manufacturers noticed a high demand for budget custom keyboards, but consumers are not willing to pay high prices. This led to the rise of budgeted custom keyboards. Companies began using more efficient production methods, such as better-quality plastics, factory-lubed switches, and gasket or tray mount designs.

This resulted in boards that feel and function far better than what is expected at a cut price. Models such as Keychron V-series and MonsGeek entry models have shown that consumers can now enjoy the feel of premium quality without having to empty their wallets.

Features that were once rare on the lower end of the spectrum, such as south-facing LEDs, QMK/VIA support, multiple plate materials, and sound-dampening foam, have now become common.

Premium is no Longer Premium

Many features that were once considered premium and exclusive to high-end keyboards are now found in budget options. Features such as hot-swappable pockets, allowing easy switch replacement, and gasket mounting, which provide flexibility and improve acoustics, come as standard. Similarly, factory-lubed switches and higher-quality keycaps make the straight out of the box experience much better than expected.

Sound and Feel Advantage

One of the most notable changes I have personally seen in budget custom keyboards is the significant improvement in acoustics. What this means is that you get sharper clicks and deeper thocks, something that many gamers crave. In the past, you needed manual modding and expensive components to get good acoustics.

Now, budgeted custom mechanical keyboards deliver this without the need for any modifications, thanks to design changes influenced by gamer preferences. The use of case foam, plate damping, force break pads, alongside integrated PE layers has made budget keyboards significantly more satisfying to type on.

Premium Brands are Worried

Premium brands are facing a market shift as consumers are no longer willing to purchase high-priced peripherals solely for the brand recognition or limited-edition status. Think about it for a second: if you can get something of the same quality for much cheaper, why would you spend so much on a branded product?

Royal Kludge

The mechanical keyboard hobby is also becoming more mainstream. Gamers can now experiment with switch types, layouts, keycap customisations, and firmware adjustments without having to deal with high costs.

Budget mechanical keyboards are becoming increasingly reliable by the day and are attracting a greater audience. As a result, premium brands must now justify their high costs.

It’s Not All Sunshine and Rainbows

Despite the increasing popularity, these budget options come with some drawbacks that you should consider. Many budget options are plagued by inconsistent quality control, which may cause uneven sound profiles, rattling, or minor production flaws.

While these boards may offer commendable features, they are often manufactured from cheaper materials that don’t compare to the quality of aluminium or brass builds of premium.

Final Thoughts

Budget keyboards are now competing directly with their premium counterparts. The features that were once exclusive to premium brands are now commonly found in budget boards, which is causing premium brands to rethink their strategies. Regardless of whether you are a new user or an experienced enthusiast, this is the best time to get your hands on a budgeted custom mechanical keyboard.

Would I buy a budget keyboard tho? The answer is surprisingly yes. Although they don’t last as long as premium models, the features are a bargain, and at such low prices, a must-have.

Noctua Launches chromax.black Versions of Its NH-D15 G2 CPU Cooler & NF-A14x25 G2 Fans

[Press Release] Noctua has released chromax.black editions of its NH-D15 G2 CPU cooler and NF-A14x25 G2 fans. These all-black models keep the same cooling and noise performance as the original G2 series while offering a cleaner, stealth-focused design.

The NF-A14x25 G2 and NF-A14x25r G2 fans build on the earlier NF-A14 and NF-A15, using a Progressive Bend impeller, Centrifugal Turbulator hub, winglets, and a tight 0.7mm tip clearance to boost airflow and static pressure. The etaPERF motor with SupraTorque helps the fans handle demanding radiator and heatsink setups without raising noise levels. The chromax.black versions keep the Sterrox LCP impeller and allow optional colored pads for simple customization.

The NH-D15 G2 chromax.black carries over the eight-heatpipe heatsink, updated fin design, and NF-A14x25r G2 fans, which have earned the cooler more than 100 awards since 2024. The black coating gives it a uniform look while maintaining its high-end thermal performance. It includes the SecuFirm2+ mounting system, NT-H2 thermal paste, and a six-year warranty.

All new chromax.black models are available now through Noctua’s official Amazon stores, with wider retail availability coming soon.

Resident Evil Requiem Breaks Tradition — Producer Confirms No Demo Release This Time

Story Highlight
  • Resident Evil Requiem will be the first game in the series in years without a demo.
  • The producer says they just want to finish the game and provide a great experience.
  • He said that playable demos do exist, but they aren’t planned for the general public.

Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch in just a few months, and the hype is real. The entry had reportedly been in development even before Resident Evil: Village, so Capcom has taken its sweet time on it; however, it’ll break a series’ tradition.

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem won’t have a demo release this time around, which is a step in a different direction. All of the previous Resident Evil games in recent years have had demos.

Why it matters: The latest entry in the franchise is enshrouded in mystery, with fans speculating about Leon and other plot points; moreover, no demo also suggests Capcom is very confident in the release.

Resident Evil 9
Requiem will be the first game in the franchise to not feature a demo in years

In a recent interview with Stevivor, game producer Masato Kumazawa went into detail about their upcoming title. He said that while playable demos for Requiem do exist, as seen at Gamescom, they aren’t planned for the general public.

So, in terms of a demo play, we actually have no plan for one (for the general public) at the stage. None at all. We just want to focus on finishing off the game.

– Masato Kumazawa

For context, most games in the franchise, since Resident Evil 2, have had playable demos for the public, so this time, Capcom is breaking a years-old tradition. Kumazawa says they just want to finish off the game for now.

The upcoming title beats a long-time series tradition

He also addressed the rumors circulating about Leon S. Kennedy‘s involvement in the game, dismissing all of them as false. However, fans are convinced that he is being saved as a surprise for an upcoming showcase or full release.

Nonetheless, Resident Evil Requiem comes out on February 27, 2026, and takes us back to Raccoon City after a years-long absence. Horror fans have had a great year, and that will continue with this next release.

Shroud Slams Game Awards After Arc Raiders Misses GOTY Nomination, Calls It “Yet Another Rigged Year”

Story Highlight
  • Shroud expresses disappointment over Arc Raiders being absent from the GOTY contender list.
  • He threw shade at the bias at the TGA.
  • Arc Raiders is still nominated for the Best Multiplayer Game, which it will likely win.

The Game Awards show will be held next month, but we already have a look at this year’s GOTY nominees. While the competition is tight this year due to quality AA and indie releases, the final list was pretty satisfactory, at least for some.

One popular gaming figure isn’t happy with the nominees as he thinks that the list was rigged. Shroud critiqued The Game Awards for not putting forward Arc Raiders as a contender for GOTY by calling it ‘yet another rigged year.’

Why it matters: Arc Raiders has become one of the best multiplayer releases of this year, even taking an edge over the likes of Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7. As such, it makes sense why Shroud wanted it to win GOTY.

Arc Raiders Runs Well, Even For A UE5 Game

Reacting to the GOTY nominees list on stream, the popular Twitch streamer wasn’t shy of expressing his thoughts as he even threw shade at the host Geoff Keighley by saying,’Bias paid off Nintendo.’

It’s no secret that Keighley has a strong relationship with Nintendo due to their frequent collaborations in award ceremonies. Furthermore, the host is also a close friend of Hideo Kojima.

Arc Raiders Is The Highest-Rated Multiplayer Game In Nearly A Decade

Even so, Donkey Kong Bananza and Death Stranding 2 were solid releases, and whether they were deserving of the GOTY nomination is all subjective at the end of the day.

Still, Arc Raiders didn’t go entirely unnoticed as it was nominated in the Best Multiplayer Game category and is likely to win against competitors like Elden Ring, Split Fiction, Battlefield 6, and Peak.

Dispatch Director Slams Generative AI Use, Says Its Only A Creative Solution If Devs Lack Creativity

Story Highlight
  • Dispatch creative director says AI can’t achieve the same results as human developers, citing examples of his actors.
  • He adds that the technology is only a creative solution for developers who lack creativity.
  • Developers currently using Gen AI have produced ‘good enough’ results, but they are not sufficient for AdHoc.

While the use of Gen AI in game development is frowned upon by gamers and media, more and more studios have begun warming up to the technology to uncomfortable levels. Therefore, multiple AAA games this year have already used AI in core gameplay elements.

Now, Dispatch creative director Nick Herman slams AI’s capabilities in development. He clarified that Gen AI cannot achieve the same results as human developers, citing examples of talented AdHoc actors who elevated gameplay through peak performance.

Why it matters: Dispatch creative director’s take on the use of AI in game development is refreshing, given the growing support for the technology, which could threaten the jobs of developers and voice actors alike.

Dispatch
Dispatch has performed really well in terms of sales and player reception.

Speaking in an interview with GamesIndustry, Nick added that Gen AI is more of a production solution than a creative one; only developers who lack creativity have found it to be an innovative solution, since no technology yet matches human talent.

AI feels like a production solution, not a creative one. Maybe it’s a creative one if you aren’t creative.

-Nick Herman, Creative Director.

As per executive producer Michael Choung, AdHoc is studying the milestones that Gen AI is achieving in game development, finding results that struggle to reach even a ‘good enough’ spot.

The studio only wants to chase the best quality for its projects, so the team does not see a need to rely on AI when human talent makes more sense.

dispatch ps5
Dispatch features a cast of likeable characters with in-depth personalities.

During the same interview, Choung added that Dispatch achieved its 3-year sales target in just 3 months alone.

The game struggled during development because no publisher believed in its potential until Critical Role stepped in. It has been such a success that AdHoc is now already planning a Season 2.

Do you think the Dispatch lead dev’s opinion on AI is refreshing compared to the industry’s slow but steady acceptance? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Battlefield 6 Going Free For a Week As Rival Shooters Turn Up The Pressure

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 6 is set to receive a free, week-long trial on November 25.
  • This trial will allow players to experience 5 game modes across 3 maps.
  • The trial comes following intense competition from games like Arc Raiders.

Battlefield 6 has been a huge deal for Dice and EA’s popular first-person shooter IP. Expected to become the series’ fastest-selling entry by the end of the year, the game is in a comfortable position as it heads into the Holiday season.

However, EA and Dice are making sure they do the most they can to keep pace with the competition. A new trial for Battlefield 6 has been announced, opening up the first-person shooter for millions of new players.

Why it matters: Battlefield 6’s humongous start set the stage for the game’s long-term popularity, so this trial suggests the team is doing everything it can to sustain the current audience.

Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 Season 1 Kicks Off In Just A Few Days

The free trial coincides with the release of Battlefield 6 Season 1. Fans can jump into the game on November 25 for free and enjoy a total of 5 modes across 3 maps till December 1.

Maps included in the trial include Siege of Cairo, Eastwood, and Blackwell Fields, allowing players to experience modes like Conquest, Breakthrough, Sabotage, and Team Deathmatch.

Elsewhere, Season 1 is set to introduce various new maps, weapons, and vehicles. The new content will be rolled out in three phases, with California Resistance having already made its debut yesterday.

Ultimately, Dice and EA’s goal here is to incentivize players to stick around for the long run with Battlefield 6. With games like Arc Raiders and even Black Ops 7 to an extent taking the spotlight, EA and Dice hope to ensure their latest release stays consistently popular.

At the time of writing, Arc Raiders is outselling both titles on Steam. It also boasts 133K concurrent players on Steam, beating Battlefield 6 by a solid margin of around 40K players.

Battlefield 6
BF6 Has Received A Lot of Criticism Lately, But The Game Remains Popular

Despite the game’s initial burst of popularity, Battlefield 6 has also seen a lot of negativity lately. In particular, players have complained about slow progression, an excessive Battle Pass push from EA, small multiplayer maps, and more.

As such, this free trial should prove useful as a marketing tool for the game. In the past, free trials and discounts for Battlefield 2042 also proved to be quite effective, so it makes sense that the series’ latest entry is using similar practices once again.

What do you think about the free trial offerings? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Megabonk Developer Withdraws From The Game Awards’ Best Debut Indie Nomination

Story Highlight
  • The developer of Megabonk has voluntarily withdrawn from The Game Awards’ Best Debut Indie nomination.
  • The developer said the popular indie did not deserve the nomination, as he has launched titles under different studio names.
  • The annual award show has recognised Vedinad’s honesty, accepting to take the game out of the category.

Since its inception, The Game Awards has been an annual event that honors the best games across multiple categories. Therefore, many games partake in extreme competition to secure a place in one or more of the show’s nominations.

After over a decade of the event, a developer has now withdrawn from The Game Awards after being nominated this year. Megabonk developer Vedinad clarifies that the well-received project still does not qualify for its Best Debut Indie nomination.

Why it matters: This event marks the first time a developer decided to willingly leave The Game Awards’ nomination after it was accepted and announced.

Megabonk Developer Response
The developer of Megabonk has withdrawn from the Best Indie Debut nomination at The Game Awards 2025.

As explained by Vedinad on Twitter, Megabonk doesn’t deserve the nomination because it is not his first actual indie game. The developer has previously made games under different studio names, which renders this nomination useless for him.

Therefore, he requested to withdraw from the nomination, instead wanting gamers to vote for other indie debut entries that shaped the gaming scene this year.

it doesn’t feel right in this category. you should vote for another one of the amazing debut titles, they are all amazing games!

-Megabonk Developer, Vedinad.

While some gamers are bummed, many online have appreciated the developer’s honesty and respected his wishes. Even The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley chimed in to praise Vennad and agreed to remove his game from the category soon.

Megabonk
Megabonk was one of the biggest indie hits this year.

The identity of Megabonk’s developer has been debated in the industry since the title’s release. Several strong clues have suggested that Vedinad is actually the popular content creator and successful developer Dani Dev, as reversing the name would suggest.

If true, then Vedinad’s remarks about working on past games under different studios already make more sense.

Do you think Megabonk should have stayed nominated for the category in The Game Awards 2025, or was this decision to withdraw the better choice? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Drops Free Story DLC ‘Valley of Memory’ Set In Saudi Arabia

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Mirage has received the Valley of Memory DLC for free today.
  • This DLC adds 6+ hours of story content, new parkour mechanics, more world activities, additional difficulty options, and more.
  • The update is meant to celebrate the game’s second anniversary.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage offered a much-needed return to Ubisoft’s roots when it initially debuted in 2023. Over two years later, the game continues to receive new content with the  Valley of Memory DLC.

Promising up to 6 hours of new content, Valley of Memory is now available worldwide.

Why it matters: Past Assassin’s Creed games did not receive the most extensive post-launch support, so it is a pleasant surprise to see Ubisoft still updating a smaller release like Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Assassin's Creed Mirage
Basim Returns In AC Mirage Once Again

For those unaware, the latest DLC takes Basim to the city of AlUla in Saudi Arabia. Here, Basim can explore the rich history of a forgotten city from the 9th century and meddle with the ruthless gangs spread throughout the city.

Valley of Memory promises plenty of new story missions, but it also brings some unexpected yet needed parkour improvements in the package. Fan-favorite features like side and back ejects are set to officially return.

Moreover, Ubisoft is adding manual ledge grabs into the mix, making for a more controlled parkour experience than past entries. All of this and more is available to play in Assassin’s Creed Mirage today. The best part is that all the content will be absolutely free.

Because so much is being added to the title, this update will take up around 10-30GB of storage, depending on the platform. Ubisoft is also set to add new world activities to Assassin’s Creed Mirage, including Stolen Goods and Oud Melodies, the latter of which is a nod to Assassin’s Creed 4’s sea shanty chases.

Making the DLC even more interesting, the game is set to receive new difficulty settings. All of this is being done to celebrate the second anniversary of Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Assassin's Creed Mirage
The Valley of Memory DLC Is Quite Hefty For A Free Offering

For those interested in Valley of Memory, the new story content can be immediately experienced through the main menu.

Ubisoft has also made it possible to initiate the story content by talking to Dervis in his shop. It should be noted that the latter requires triggering the mission ‘The Head of the Snake.’

What do you think about Valley of Memory so far? Do you intend to revisit the game for the DLC? Share your thoughts in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Ubisoft Doubles Down on Live Service, Says Its More Interested in Multiplayer Games

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft has filed a new financial warning in the UK, predicting the future of the market.
  • They say that they want to shift focus away from single-player games to live service.
  • They haven’t really had much success with single-player or live service in recent years.

Ubisoft is going through a massive crisis, with the company on the brink of being acquired. In recent years, the gaming giants have experimented a lot with live service with little to no results, but they’re adamant on the genre.

In a recently filed financial warning, Ubisoft stated that the traditional £50-£60 one-time purchase single-player formula doesn’t work anymore in the market, so it is more interested in live service and free-to-play games.

Why it matters: Some recent examples of Ubisoft live service titles include Skull and Bones and Xdefiant, both of which have been major flops despite so much hype and years of development.

Ubisoft Live-Service Shooter
Ubisoft says Live Service games are the future of the industry

Ubisoft UK filed a financial warning (via CityAM), highlighting that physical software sales will see a decline in the upcoming years, leading to a dip in revenue. The market doesn’t follow the old traditional formula anymore.

The traditional model of selling (single-pLayer) Games continues to become less ubiquitous. Long-running Games As A Service titles, Free To Play games, and Cloud Streaming offerings all provide more attractive way to access gaming content.

Instead of the usual single-player titles, it is more feasible to release long-running games as a Service title, free-to-play games, and Cloud streaming services, all of which are more attractive for modern gamers.

Ubisoft Stock Down By Over 45%
The company has struggled in recent years

The company has further stated that consumers are playing fewer games, outside of a few exceptions, due to which many new games struggle in sales, so the market is more volatile and results are less predictable.

However, Ubisoft, in recent years, has struggled with both live service and single-player games, so much so that it nearly reached bankruptcy. At this point, what the future holds for the studio is highly unpredictable.

What are your thoughts on Ubisoft doubling down on its live service games? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum.

Consoles Aren’t Going Anywhere, But Gaming Is Shifting Towards PC, Says Take-Two CEO

Story Highlight
  • Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has stated that the gaming industry is moving towards PC’s.
  • Consumers will want more open systems in the future, according to Zelnick.
  • However, consoles will continue to persist, as people will want devices they can enjoy for hours on a TV.

With gaming giants like Xbox moving towards a hybrid cloud system for the next generation, there has been much debate about the evolution of consoles. Valve has also thrown its name into the mix with its newly unveiled Steam Machine, which will run on Linux.

And, if you ask the CEO of Take-Two, the dominance of traditional consoles is coming to a close.

Why it matters: Take-Two owns the biggest gaming franchise, which accounts for a lot of gaming revenue. Hence, the CEO’s prophecy could be deadly for consoles.

Xbox Hybrid Console
Xbox and Valve are moving to a hybrid console model.

In a new interview with CNBC, Strauss Zelnick stated that the gaming industry will move towards PCs in the future. According to the Take-Two CEO, “open systems” will be more in trend in the future.

I think it’s moving towards PC and business is moving towards open rather than closed.

However, Zelnick doesn’t believe that consoles will be obsolete all of a sudden. The CEO went on to explain that consoles, as a concept, will continue to persist and will never go away.

He expanded on this, saying that if you view consoles as properties that engage consumers for hours on a big TV screen, they will remain part of the gaming ecosystem.

Interestingly, GTA 6, Take-Two’s biggest product in the next year, is not releasing on PC day-and-date with consoles, despite Strauss Zelnick’s prediction.

GTA 6 is expected to be a major needle mover for consoles. Hence, the owner of the most exciting entertainment release signalling the era of PC’s could be a sign of times ahead.

gta 6
GTA 6 is not releasing day one on PC.

PlayStation is the only big player that hasn’t revealed its console plans thoroughly. But if a PC-based uprising is on the way, the Japanese company could be left behind.

RAM Prices Have Now Increased By Over 150% In Just A Month

Story Highlight
  • RAM prices have reached a new high due to high demand caused by the AI boom.
  • The prices have seen an astronomical increase of over 150% in some cases.
  • The shortage and inflation are said to continue till at least 2027.

RAM prices have shot up so much that nobody saw it coming. In recent weeks, we’ve seen massive price increases from all major vendors due to the DRAM shortage, which is expected to persist until at least 2027, worsening the situation.

If we compare the RAM prices from just a month ago, they have seen an astronomical increase of over 150%. The AI boom has led to a surge in demand, which is impacting general PC gamers the most.

Why it matters: The RAM crisis is supposed to continue for at least a couple of years as AI demand is at its highest. With even crypto companies shifting to AI, the demand will only increase, along with the prices.

G.skill and Teamgroup are two of the most popular RAM vendors on Amazon. If we look at their pricing history, Teamgroup T-Force Delta 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz cost about $100 in October, now it’s selling for $324.

The trend is similar for G.Skill Trident Z Neo RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 memory as well. It was priced at about $200 in October and is now selling for $450. This results in an overall increase of over 150%.

RAM prices have touched a high never seen before

Other memory modules have seen a massive increase as well. This isn’t limited to a few vendors, as the DRAM shortage comes from suppliers, who have already sold their backlog and orders already booked.

Anyhow, this is going to make PC gaming a lot more expensive. Memory was something you didn’t even think about much, but it has now transitioned into one of the most expensive components of a gaming PC.

What are your thoughts on RAM prices increasing by over 150%? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum.

Activision Thanks Fans for Positive Response to Black Ops 7 “Gameplay Depth and Quality”

Story Highlight
  • Activision calls Black Ops 7 launch successful, thanking fans for the positive response.
  • In reality, the game’s user score is at 1.7 on Metacritic, telling a different story.
  • As a result, Black Ops 7 has become the lowest-rated game in the series’ history.

Black Ops 7 has set a new low for the Call of Duty franchise, and a comparison to Battlefield 6 wasn’t even needed to describe how much of a catastrophe Activision’s magnum opus has become.

Despite this trainwreck of a launch, Activision is trying to portray a different image. They recently posted on social media, congratulating developers behind the game and thanking fans for the ‘great response’ to ‘quality and depth of gameplay’ in Black Ops 7.

Why it matters: No PR is ever going to change the mind of fans for Black Ops 7. Activision really needs to rethink its future plans for this veteran FPS franchise.

activision thanking fans
Call Of Duty’s Message To Fans Via Social Media

While Activision is thanking fans for the great response, the user review score on Metacritic tells a different story. Black Ops 7 is one of the lowest-rated games in the entire Call of Duty series, with a 1.7 score based mostly on negative reviews.

One of the most complained-about aspects of the game is the campaign mode, which shows that Black Ops has become a parody of its former self. The game has a Skibidi toilet boss battle, which is absurd for a game marketed as an authentic military FPS.

Arc Raiders
Arc Raiders Has Taken The Spotlight Out Of All Shooter Releases

On top of that, the game is openly using AI slop despite the big budget allocated for Call of Duty games. The result is that the Day One Steam player count has dropped by 70% compared to its prequel.

What are your thoughts on Black Ops 7 so far? Let us know in the comments below, or at the official Tech4Gamers Forums.
