Will A Halo Extraction Shooter Work?

Story Highlight
  • Older reports suggested that the next main Halo game would be a battle royale title.
  • However, the idea has now been scrapped, and it will now be an extraction shooter.
  • It is reportedly because the studio is now not using its old Halo Slipspace engine.

The Halo franchise is legendary, as it was one of the first games that put Microsoft on the gaming map. Since then, it has changed a lot, even the studio getting a complete rebrand from 343 Studios to Halo Studios

Another major change is that the series is now coming to PlayStation for the first time. Also, a new Halo game is currently in development as was slated to be a battle royale, but now it’s claimed that it’ll be an extraction shooter.

Why it matters: Recently, there has been an increased trend of extraction shooters after the success of Arc Raiders. We’ve also had Marathon and Escape from Tarkov, and now it seems that Halo will follow suit.

Rebs Gaming, known mainly for Halo leaks, has revealed that the next Halo game, which was first planned as a battle royale title built using the Slipspace engine, has now transitioned into an extraction shooter

The engine is no longer in use, and so Halo Studios has completely given up on the idea. The report states that the project was last said to be in development in 2023 with a codename, Project Eker.

The next Halo game will possibly be an extraction shooter

It will be a PvE extraction shooter, but the current status is unknown. Various reports also state that it will solely be a multiplayer project, or it could even turn into the next mainline entry in the franchise, but nothing’s confirmed.
