- Crimson Desert wasn’t in the top 10 best-selling games of the US in March.
- Marathon has been a bigger hit in the region, taking the 4th spot on the list.
- This shows a striking contrast between players from different regions preferring different kinds of titles.
March this year had some prominent releases, namely Crimson Desert and Bungie’s Marathon. While the former has been universally loved, the latter garnered mixed reviews, but the sales in the US tell a very different story.
According to a recent report, Crimson Desert couldn’t make it into the top 10 best-selling games in the US for March. However, with overall lesser sales and a much gloomier reception, Marathon took the 4th spot.
Why it matters: This highlights how different titles cater to different groups of people. As per the numbers, the US definitely didn’t account for a big chunk of Pearl Abyss’s RPG sales, but it definitely did for Bungie’s extraction shooter.

Circana dropped its latest report for game sales in the US, in which Crimson Desert was a no-show among the top 10 best-sellers. It took the 15th spot, but there is a big asterisk here, as the data doesn’t count digital sales.
And considering that a lot of sales these days are digital, the RPG might boast much better numbers. Anyhow, the overall sales for Crimson Desert blow Marathon out of the park as it has already sold over 5 million copies.

While Marathon lags in overall sales, it is far from a failure. It is estimated to be nearing 2 million sales, which isn’t too ideal for live service titles, but is still decent considering many thought it would be dead on arrival.
