Four years after the last entry, the next game in the God of War Saga was officially revealed during State of Play. Starring Kratos’ wife Faye, the upcoming title has become the most viewed reveal from the show, earning praise from fans and some criticism from the IP’s creator.
Interestingly, players noticed that God of War Laufey didn’t have a release date attached to it, unlike most games showcased at State of Play. As it turns out, fans won’t have to wait too long to play the single-player action-adventure title.
Why it matters: Sony is in desperate need of a flagship AAA single-player title to revitalise it among players following the failure of Marathon this year. Hence, God of War Laufey dropping next year will do the company a world of good.
As revealed by insider Alir on X, God of War Laufey is set to launch during the first part of 2027. The leaker didn’t give us a specific release date, but he does confirm that the spin-off will drop before Summer 2027.
This also corroborates reports from other industry experts, with the likes of Jason Schrier hinting that God of War Laufey will launch in 2027. In addition, Alir predicted that Sony will release two major exclusives next year, with Intergalactic: Heretic Prophet set for the second half of 2027.
However, the insider said that he wasn’t sure about the Naughty Dog game’s release window, as it could also be a PS6 launch title. The industry expert has a good track record when it comes to God of War: Laufey, however, having disclosed its State of Play debut days before the actual reveal.
The action-adventure title, which will feature deities from both the Egyptian and Tibetan mythologies, has been in development since 2020, according to a former writer. Hence, a release before summer next year, like 2018’s God of War, doesn’t seem too far-fetched for
