- God of War creator David Jaffe has had a negative reaction to Laufey.
- He says the game looks bland and is unlikely to perform well.
- The former developer argues that it looks like a fantasy title and nothing like how a God of War game should be.
God of War is finally returning with a brand new title. The series’ latest entry is dubbed God of War Laufey, and it features Faye’s journey in the afterlife right after her death.
Santa Monica Studio has shown over 20 minutes of uncut gameplay for the first look at the title, and reactions to the game have been quite positive overall. However, the original God of War creator does not like what he has seen so far.
Why it matters: The God of War creator has been known to share his opinions on the series’ recent developments, often disliking the new direction of the franchise.
David Jaffe, the creator of the original God of War, had a strong reaction to the series’ latest reveal. From the beginning, David Jaffe’s comments made it clear that he didn’t necessarily enjoy what was being shown.
After the gameplay preview ended, the former developer explained that he feels Cory Barlog was forced into making yet another God of War project. He also discussed how God of War Laufey might not perform as well as PlayStation expects it to.
In fact, the developer even compared it to Forspoken, one of Square Enix’s worst-performing games in recent years.
F***k was that? That looks like sh*t. Reminds me of that game Forspoken.
I think that looks so uninspired, and it looks so dull. That game is not going to do well for what they expect.

David Jaffe went on to explain that God of War Laufey appears to have lost the core identity of the series and feels more like a fantasy title.
Between the lack of Kratos, a distinct mythology, or the series’ classic gore, the former developer does not enjoy what PlayStation has shown so far. For these reasons and more, David Jaffe feels Laufey is not a God of War title in the traditional sense.
“This is not God of War. I don’t know what this is. I didn’t like it at all.”
