- The Coalition CEO says Gears of War E-Day is a great foundation for future games in the franchise.
- His remark implies the team is seriously considering another entry after seeing E-Day’s success.
- He also insists that the next title won’t take seven years to launch, going for a shorter development cycle.
Gears of War E-Day is a strong launch for Xbox, ranking number one in global players in the single-player genre. While its post-launch Steam active player count isn’t as impressive as expected, the game has still proven to be the boost Microsoft’s gaming brand needed.
The Coalition CEO Mike Crump now explains Gears of War E-Day will also be ‘a great foundation’ for the future titles in the franchise. His remark basically implies that the development team is already considering working on a new project in the near future.
Why it matters: The Coalition is gearing up to develop another Gears of War in the future, a project that won’t take nearly a decade to launch. E-Day’s strong performance has become a great foundation for the studio’s next endeavor.

Speaking to the BBC, Mike Crump explains a strong foundation means the next game won’t take nearly as long as E-Day to drop. For reference, the prequel took about 7 years to launch since Gear 5 in 2019, which is a lot of time even for AAA standards.

There have been concerns that E-Day might struggle to recoup its $400 million+ budget after skipping PS5. Mike says the team has financial targets and goals for the number of players it targets for E-Day, but he believes it takes a much broader view to measure success.
We’ve got a great team here. And the leadership team in particular has worked together for upwards of 20 years. So there’s definitely a continuity of knowledge and experience.

For those not in the know, the game has also faced a flurry of backlash from gamers after the name of a controversial consultancy firm was discovered in its credits. The developers now fear facing layoffs ahead of its launch.
