Gears E-Day Off to A Good Start on Xbox; Ranks No 1 on Global Players in Single-Player Games

Decent Start Compared to The Underwhelming Full PC Launch!

Story Highlight
  • Gears E-Day is apparently doing a decent job on Xbox after a weak debut on Steam.
  • It is the number 1 single-player game on Xbox in terms of global player engagement.
  • It doesn’t guarantee huge success, but these are still decent enough numbers.

Gears of War E-Day is the first real Xbox exclusive in years, so the expectations were high. In terms of reviews, the title has done fairly well, with an 87 on Metacritic. While the PC launch was a bit underwhelming, it’s supposedly doing better on Xbox.

According to an analyst firm, Gears E-Day debuted at no 1 in terms of global player engagement on Xbox among single-player games. Overall, it was 4th after live service games like NBA, Roblox, and Fortnite.

Why it matters: Technically, the game should’ve peaked even higher, but these are still decent numbers, considering it’s Xbox’s return to exclusives; the PC port at least broke past the last game’s peak player count.

Pretty good start for Gears of War: E-Day on console.According to Circana's Player Engagement Tracker it ranked 4th in Xbox global players on October 6th (behind only Fortnite, Roblox and NBA 2K27).The average Xbox player ran the game for over 200 minutes on that day.

Circana’s Matt Piscatella states that the Gears E-Day debut is good on Xbox consoles; however, they aren’t aware of the company’s metrics, so they can’t really say if Xbox considers the debut a success or not.

Anyhow, Asha Sharma did seem satisfied with the performance in her recent Townhall meeting. The debut hasn’t been huge on PC, but then Gears has historically been a console-first series, so that’s understandable.

The title received great reviews with an 87 score on Metacritic

There were fears that the game might fail quite badly, which in early tracking doesn’t seem to be the case. It might not be the highest-selling game ever, but then again, the franchise isn’t known for that either, and it’s also on Game Pass.
