EA Boss Took An Extra $8 Million Home Last Year While Battlefield 6 Employees Were Laid Off!

Story Highlight
  • EA has awarded its boss nearly $38 million in compensation for fiscal year 2026.
  • The report highlighting this bonus payment states that Battlefield 6 was a hit for the studio.
  • Despite the game’s success, many developers who worked on the title were laid off after its release.

Battlefield 6 became an absolute phenomenon for EA last year, standing out as the best-selling shooter of the year. The first-person shooter showed immense potential, and although it has seen better days now, the game was an undoubted success for the team.

Following this success, EA also confirms that its CEO was paid a whopping $38 million in bonus compensation.

Why it matters: The gaming industry continues to show a sad trend of mistreating the talented developers who bring its biggest projects to life.

EA Battlefield Layoffs
Battlefield Studio also had layoffs recently despite the game’s success

EA’s public 10K report published today confirms that major executives were paid millions of dollars in compensation. CEO Andrew Wilson was offered the biggest reward at over $38 million, while others like CFO Stuart Canfield received over $10 million in total for fiscal year 2026.

The same report shows that CEO Andrew Wilson’s compensation went up by $8 million between fiscal year 2025 and 2026. This was, of course, due to Battlefield 6 making waves across the games industry.

The sad contrast here is that developers across the many teams that worked on Battlefield 6 faced layoffs in fiscal year 2026. Moreover, post-launch support for the game has also been far from spectacular.

At the same time, EA has recently confirmed the death of IPs like Need for Speed. Despite all of this, the gaming giant continues to reward its biggest executives with major bonuses and paychecks.

EA Sports titles could see a lot of in-game ad placement of real brands moving forward.
EA Sports Titles Continue To Dominate The Market

EA’s biggest strength lies in ensuring its sports titles continue to bring in results year after year. It appears 2026 will be no different, with EA Sports FC 27 even outselling GTA 6 briefly on PlayStation. This is also one key reason behind the CEO’s massive bonuses during the current fiscal year.
