Dan Houser Still Has A Lot of Love For Bully!

Story Highlight
  • Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser has praised Bully and its lasting appeal.
  • He says that people usually enjoy playing open-world titles made with integrity.
  • The 2006 release remains one of Rockstar’s most distinctive games, despite never receiving a sequel.

Former Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser has reflected positively on Bully in a recent interview, describing the cult classic as a special game all these years after its original release.

Why it matters: Bully remains one of Rockstar’s most requested revivals, and many prominent Rockstar Games developers also look back on the IP with great fondness today.

Bully First Debuted In 2006

Dan Houser, who also served as a writer on Bully, highlighted the game while discussing Rockstar’s history and the studio’s major properties.

Speaking to IGN, he highlighted that Bully’s charm lies in the fact that it offers traditional gameplay in a very different setting. In many ways, the game allowed teenagers and young adults to relive an era that they had fond memories of.

Dan Houser also discussed the game’s soundtrack, art direction, and characters. He believes Rockstar Games did an incredible job bringing all these elements together for the final game, resulting in nearly unanimous love for Bully.

I think people love open-world games anyways. We’ve got some really memorable characters, and it’s a unique setting. The team did an amazing job.

The game’s many distinctions are exactly why many continue to yearn for a true Bully sequel all these years later.

Fans Want More Bully Titles

Because Rockstar Games has changed so much over the years, a Bully follow-up is very unlikely for now. Fortunately, the original game remains just as enjoyable to play all these years later.

The fact that Dan Houser speaks so positively about it to this day is all the evidence one needs to prove this is the case.

Would you want Rockstar to develop Bully 2, or should the original remain a standalone classic?
