Dragon’s Dogma 2 Drops As Low As 33FPS At 1080p Using RTX 4070 Ti

Capcom Also Admits PC Performance Is Poor!

Story Highlight
  • While it appears to be a great game, Dragon’s Dogma 2 suffers from poor performance.
  • The game drops to as low as 24FPS on PS5, but PC performance is equally appalling.
  • According to reviewers, it can drop to 33FPS at 1080p when using the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 reviews have begun to pour in. The pre-release excitement has launched the title to Steam’s top sellers, and the reviews are positive across the board.

While everything seems to be going well for Capcom, PC and console performance could become a problem. The game already ran poorly on PS5 but reviews state that PC performance is just as disappointing.

According to multiple reviews, the game is CPU-limited, often dropping into frame rates below 35.

Why it matters: Capcom is known as one of the best in the industry when it comes to optimization. However, it seems Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the exception rather than the norm.

From PCGamer’s testing, it is clear that CPUs are the big bottlenecks in the game.

For instance, the RTX 4070 Ti, often said to rival the RTX 3090, can’t stay above 60FPS at a resolution as low as 1080p when paired with an Intel Core i7-14700KF. The benchmarks show 1% lows of 33FPS, which is unacceptable for any modern game on this level of hardware.

A Capcom representative admitted to IGN that performance is not the best in the game. The problem appears to stem from CPU demands impacted by the physical presence of characters.

Therefore, any instance with multiple characters on screen will force the frame rates to drop severely.

We are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.

IGN also states that performance is poor on consoles. The reviewer ended up switching to the PC version because the PS5’s frame rate would vary so wildly from moment to moment.

Perhaps Capcom should consider a 30FPS lock for consoles to fix the issue. However, PC is an entirely different scenario. Even at 4K, when the CPU load is reduced considerably, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti exhibits 1% lows below 37FPS.

Overall, Capcom has found itself in a huge mess. Despite the positive press, the game’s performance could become a roadblock on its path to success.

PC gamers have suffered from poor port after port in 2023, and Capcom’s latest release is sure to be a major blow. This studio, once trusted for excellent PC titles, has stumbled with its first big release of 2024 despite the $70 price tag.
