  • New games could be direct sequels or spin-offs featuring other characters.

Remedy Entertainment is planning on developing more Alan Wake and Control games.

The Finnish studio’s most recent quarterly report revealed that although they encountered financial difficulties in the last quarter of 2023, the release of Alan Wake 2 was a big win.

Why it matters: In February, Remedy announced that Alan Wake 2 sold 1.3 million units. It seems the studio is happy with this success.

Alan Wake 2 managed to make back most of the money invested by Epic Games. Remedy Entertainment’s CEO, Tero Virtala, now wants to make these games even bigger, with more people knowing about them and new sequels coming out regularly.

Remedy is focused on making these franchises grow because they see them as key to future success.

Our ambition is to grow them (Alan Wake and Control) into franchises that have high brand recognition.

-Tero Virtala

While Virtala remained tight-lipped about the specifics, his comments suggest that Remedy is developing more Alan Wake content. This could take the form of a direct sequel or a spin-off title focusing on another character within the universe.

In addition to Alan Wake 2, Remedy provided updates on other ongoing projects. Control 2 and Codename Condor are progressing through various stages of development, with a focus on refining gameplay mechanics and world-building.

Earlier this month, a job listing suggested that Remedy might be making the Control spin-off multiplayer with a first-person focus.

Furthermore, Remedy announced that Max Payne remakes will have the same budget as Alan Wake 2, so expect the titles to be fully-fledged AAA games.

Virtala also talked about how Remedy wants to change things up with Control by finding a new way to do business and partner with others. This shows they’re looking to take the franchise to new heights.

Meanwhile, the team is getting ready to drop two DLCs for Alan Wake 2 called Night Springs and Lake House. These will add more to the game and give players fresh adventures in the Alan Wake world.

Anyhow, it seems the Finnish studio is actively working on several titles based in the universe of Alan Wake and Control. Fans can certainly expect more Sam Lake magic in the coming years.
