CDPR Shares Drop As The Witcher 3: Songs Of The Past DLC Targets 2027 Launch

Expert Verified By

Previous Reports Suggested The DLC Would Launch This Fall.

Story Highlight
  • CD Projekt Red’s stock price dropped by almost 6% after the new Witcher 3 DLC was announced.
  • Songs of the Past was previously reported to launch in 2026 before GTA 6.
  • Hence, fans haven’t responded positively to the expansion now releasing in 2027.

A third expansion for The Witcher 3 has been one of the worst-kept secrets in the gaming industry. The new DLC was first teased back in 2025, with CD Projekt Red fueling the suspicion of industry experts by announcing it had several unannounced projects in development.

Now, the Polish studio has finally unveiled the latest expansion, naming it Songs of the Past. However, despite the exciting reveal, CD Projekt Red’s share price on the stock market has fallen instead of seeing an increase.

Why it matters: The gaming world has been waiting for the better part of a decade for new Witcher content, and seeing the expansion’s launch slip to 2027 makes the wait even harder.

Since the announcement of the new Witcher 3 DLC, CD Projekt Red’s stock price has dropped by almost 6% due to the expansion’s targeted release date of 2027. At the time of writing, the Polish Studio’s share has plunged by 5.83%, as previous reports suggested that the company would release Songs of the Past in 2026.

Some insiders had even claimed that the DLC would launch in September before GTA 6 hits the stores. However, CD Projekt Red has surprised fans and investors alike by revealing the 2027 release window.

Co-developed by Fool’s Theory, Songs of the Past will reportedly introduce new regions to The Witcher 3 while expanding on Velen. Analysts also predict that the expansion will be a massive success, claiming it will sell 11 million copies on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 at $30, easily offsetting this decrease in share price when it launches.

Witcher 3
The new expansion will launch next year on current-gen consoles and PC.

The Polish Studio is also hard at work on Witcher 4, hiring even more talented developers to make the most immersive entry in the series so far, while utilising cutting-edge Nvidia technology and an updated Unreal Engine 5. With the entire Witcher trilogy also set to launch in the next 6 years, CD Projekt Red has enough in store to make the years of waiting worthwhile.
