AC Black Flag Resynced is Completely Built From The Ground Up as The Original Code Couldn’t Be Used

It Was More Like A Brand New Game Than A Remake!

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft says that the AC Black Flag Resynced is completely built from the ground up.
  • The code for the original game was made with Windows 2000, so it was outdated.
  • They used it as a reference, but had to build everything from the ground up.

Ubisoft has finally found a much-needed win with the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake. The title is a very faithful remake of the original, but dials all the things up a notch thanks to modern technology and powerful game engines.

Unsurprisingly, the game director has revealed that Black Flag Resynced is built from the ground up and is almost like a brand-new game. They didn’t use any older code, so the game ended up like a new project instead of a remake.

Why it matters: This makes sense considering the title does look like a brand-new game. The older code for the game was written on Windows 2000, which of course is highly dated, so they had to build everything from scratch.

We look at how it (old code) worked, delve into the data to understand how certain things were implemented, and learn some secrets. However, in fact, we had to reassemble everything from scratch

Black Flag Resynced director Richard Knight went into detail about the game’s development. He stated that the original code was so old they couldn’t use it, so the title wasn’t really treated as a remake at all.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Review
The title has been completely built from the ground up

It was completely built from the ground up, with some elements adopted from their last release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The original code was only used as a reference for the developers to understand what they wanted.

The choice wasn’t entirely intentional, as the developers did obviously want to make the game better than the original, but also because they had no option otherwise. In the end, the game has indeed turned out to be great.
