Rockstar's Magnum Opus Already Earned Around $594 Million Revenue!

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 pre-orders have allegedly already surpassed 6 million sales over a month before release.
  • PS5 saw 74% pre-orders, enjoying a staggering 4.51 million copies sold.
  • Xbox Series X|S took the remaining 26%, with 1.57 million units sold so far.

GTA 6 is dominating headlines in the gaming industry, with both good and bad developments happening every day as release draws near. The game’s marketing cost Rockstar a striking $150 million, but it has reportedly already earned over triple that amount in revenue.

A notable data tracker has now revealed that the game’s pre-orders have already exceeded over 6 million sales. The milestone is causing a huge ruckus among fans because there’s still well over a month before Rockstar launches the game.

Why it matters: GTA 6 is shaping up to be a huge sensation, to such a point that it has already earned Rockstar and Take-Two over half a billion in revenue a month before launch. This milestone just goes to show that no other AAA game could come close to competing.

Analytics firm Sensor Tower reveals that GTA 6 has already earned nearly $600 million in revenue on both Xbox Series X|S and PS5 platforms. As per a different report, 89% of these pre-order sales are said to be for the $100 Ultimate Edition.

Regardless, PlayStation was responsible for the brunt of this revenue stream, boasting over $441 million with 4.51 million copies sold. Meanwhile, Xbox saw a 26% revenue split with $153 million, which translated to a total of only 1.57 million pre-order copies sold.

Most multi-million dollar AAA games don’t even perform half as well after launch, so this milestone also shows the incredible sales potential that Rockstar’s magnum opus will boast after launch.

To put things into perspective, the game is expected to sell 25 million copies on day one and up to 85 million units within two months, according to various analysts.

The open-world experience is also expected to have a severe impact on the world’s economies. Organizations worldwide are discussing job leaves for the day the game launches. It is also expected to cause over a billion USD in losses on its first day in the US.
