- Former Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser said Bully was challenging because the team had to define the game without gun-based action.
- He also noted that it was hard to market the title when the team was focused on dispelling criticism.
- He believes this is why Bully never got the attention it deserved.
Bully remains one of Rockstar’s strangest and most beloved games, but the game hasn’t received a modern rendition or a sequel.
This isn’t due to lack of fan demand either, with many considering Bully to be underrated among Rockstar Games’ catalog. It appears studio co-founder Dan Houser agrees, calling the game underrated in a recent interview.
Why it matters: Bully remains a unique title for many Rockstar Games fans today, one that most played during their childhoods and look fondly back upon.

Speaking to IGN, Dan Houser suggests it never quite received the attention it deserved.
Houser explained that the team struggled with the basic question of what to do with a title without guns and cars. This was due to the team’s work on GTA, so it couldn’t make GTA in a school with Bully.
Houser noted that Rockstar Games was ultimately able to come through and create a great game with Bully. However, one problem with the title was that the team was forced to convince people to not protest it before release.
This is perhaps why Bully never got the proper attention it deserved, since Rockstar Games wasn’t able to market it to people properly.
I think one of the challenges with the game was that it never got the attention it deserved.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Dan Houser has praised Bully, despite sharing the challenges associated with the title.
