- Data reveals Gear of War E-Day had more players than multiplayer titles last week.
- It was also the second biggest debut of 2026 on Game Pass, only after Forza 6.
- The title has been doing well, but the sales were cannibalized by Game Pass.
There have been many reports with multiple claims about how Gears of War E-Day performed in its opening week. Being the first true Xbox exclusive in years, the game’s debut was quite decent, but Game Pass pulled sales back.
New data reveals that Gears of War E-Day saw more players than Minecraft and Fortnite in the last week. It was marked as the second biggest launch on Game Pass this year, right after the much more successful Forza Horizon 6.
Why it matters: This suggests that Xbox players were highly interested in the new Gears game. However, instead of paying the full price, they took the more convenient route by playing it on the subscription service.

TrueAchievements reveals that E-Day pulled in 16.6% more players than Minecraft in its launch week. It also had 8.6% more players than Halo CE, and a whopping 164% more than Minecraft Dungeons 2.
In terms of overall player numbers, it was the most popular Xbox game last week, towering above Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox, Call of Duty, and all other multiplayer titles. These are big numbers, showcasing huge engagement.

Anyhow, despite this, the game reportedly sold only 62K copies on Xbox, with 1.7 million players on Game Pass. But even with low sales, many people using the service did pay the $30 to get the early access, boosting revenue.
