- GTA 6 is said to require PS5 firmware 14.10.00 or newer to run.
- This update comes after an exploit was found in PS5 firmware 13.60 from July.
- The requirement will likely ensure GTA 6 is unplayable on jailbroken systems to prevent piracy.
GTA 6 will undoubtedly be the biggest game of the current generation, and it is expected to see the most popularity on a platform like the PS5.
However, rapid breakthroughs in PS5 jailbreaking and emulation have also raised concerns about GTA 6 potentially falling victim to piracy. In terms of the former, Rockstar Games and Sony appear to have the situation covered, with GTA 6 requiring firmware 14.10.00.
Why it matters: Ever since Sony’s shift away from PC ports, the jailbreaking community seems to have taken more interest in finding exploits in the PS5 firmware.

According to the PlayStation Store backend via Twitter, PS5 firmware 14.10.00 or newer will be needed to run GTA 6 later this year. The PlayStation Store listing includes the firmware requirement, which would make older PS5 system software incompatible with the game.
This is interesting because PS5 jailbreaks usually depend on users staying on specific older firmware versions. Those with jailbroken consoles on older firmware versions, therefore, will simply be unable to boot GTA 6.
Of course, PS5 firmware 14.10.00 could be exploited at some point in the future, but this requirement should protect the game from piracy at release. Note that recent developments in PS5 jailbreaking made it possible to run pirated games on PS5 firmware as recent as the one from the July 13.60 update.
Therefore, it seems PlayStation’s GTA 6 firmware requirement is a direct response to this development.

Given how security exploits work, firmware 14.10.00 won’t stay safe forever. However, as mentioned earlier, this update should give GTA 6 a safety net ahead of its upcoming November release.
