The Series Creator Hideki Kamiya Left The Studio in 2023!

Story Highlight

  • Many feared for the future of the Bayonetta IP since most original devs left the studio.
  • PlatinumGames has confirmed that despite that, they’ll continue developing the IP.
  • They don’t have anything to offer right now, but have shown commitment to it.

Bayonetta is one of the most influential franchises in its genre. In fact, it is a pioneer of stylish action games, developed by the legendary Hideki Kamiya, the creator of Devil May Cry. However, the franchise’s future felt a little uncertain.

Most of the original developers, including Kamiya, left PlatinumGames, which led to concerns that the series’ future might be in jeopardy. But the studio boss has revealed that they are still committed to the Bayonetta franchise.

Why it matters: Bayonetta isn’t just another gaming franchise; it is now considered an icon at this point. It led to many other similar titles, including the highly successful Stellar Blade by Shift Up Entertainment.

Platinum Games will still develop Bayonetta games despite original devs leaving the studio

We have a strong desire to further develop the character of Bayonetta and expand her world. Please look forward to seeing what form that takes in the future.

Speaking to Famitsu, Atsushi Inaba talked about the future of the highly popular franchise. She said she can’t tell much right now, but they definitely have the intention to develop Bayonetta and expand her world.

So, while they might not have anything new planned right now, there are no intentions of dropping the franchise. The latest release came in 2023, after which the Kamiya left the studio due to creative differences.

PlatinumGames doesn’t own the IP either. It belongs to Sega and Nintendo; however, it seems the studio will continue working on it anyhow. This is a promising development for fans who were worried the series is done.
