Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser left the studio six years ago and began working on his own game in 2024. Recently, the developer has confirmed that his next game is a sci-fi title.

Dan Houser also confirmed that he has yet to watch GTA 6 footage, noting that he likely won’t end up watching it anytime soon. 

Why it matters: GTA 6 is going to be the industry’s biggest game ever, so all eyes are on the title. The former Rockstar Games developer, therefore, is taking a completely different approach here.

Speaking to Variety, Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser said he still has not watched the Netflix GTA 6 footage. 

Houser says that he is staying away from GTA 6 because he wants to focus on his own ideas and innovations. He highlights that watching the next GTA entry could easily become a distraction, especially at a time when he is trying to create something new.

Dan Houser is more interested in coming up with exciting new ideas instead of copying what Rockstar Games is doing with GTA 6 or comparing his work with the team’s output on GTA 6.

I always try and avoid stuff that’s going to distract or disrupt me creatively. 

Houser also explained that he took a similar approach to making Red Dead Redemption, avoiding Western shows and IPs before the game was fully made.

I really try and avoid things that I think are going to overly influence me.
