Naughty Dog has been under a lot of fire recently because the studio hasn’t delivered a new game in 6 years. Since 2020’s The Last of Us Part 2, the studio has resorted to remakes and remasters until it announced Intergalactic in 2024. 

Since then, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has been a no-show at SoPs and showcases, and Naughty Dog has confirmed that we won’t be seeing it soon either. The studio plans the full reveal of the game sometime in 2027.

Why it matters: Fans feared that the studio might completely skip the PS5 generation with no new releases. If the full reveal is planned next year, and PS6 also comes out in late 2027, that might become a reality. 

Neil Druckmann recently talked about the future of Naughty Dog games at The Last of Us Day. He revealed that 2026 will yet be another silent year for the studio and that they plan a full reveal for Intergalactic next year. 

We’re going to be quiet for the rest of this year. In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.

He hasn’t mentioned a release window, but if the game is announced in mid-2027, we are likely looking at a late-2027 or 2028 release, so there’s still a lot of waiting to do. He also gave an update on the next TLOU games. 

The studio has 2 separate The Last of Us projects in the works, and they will take the lore forward from TLOU part 2. This means that they could be direct sequels or spinoffs set after the events of Ellie sparing Abby.
