Activision Will Move On To Something Different In The Future!

Story Highlight
  • Activision has described Modern Warfare 4 as “the epic conclusion,” raising questions about the rebooted series’ future.
  • The wording suggests the upcoming first-person shooter will close the story that began with 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot.
  • Infinity Ward might move on to a new sub-brand for Call of Duty in the future.

Activision is gearing up to launch Modern Warfare 4, but audience interest in the series isn’t the greatest at the moment, especially due to an upcoming release like GTA 6.

The gaming giant is also bringing the title to the Nintendo Switch, and as per Activision, Modern Warfare 4 could mark the end of the rebooted Modern Warfare arc.

Why it matters: Modern Warfare and Black Ops remain Call of Duty’s most popular sub-franchises, so it will be interesting to see what the team does next.

Over on Twitter, Activision referred to MW4 as “the epic conclusion.”

Although it’s possible that this teaser hints at the conclusion of the current Modern Warfare story, many believe it signals the conclusion of this particular Call of Duty sub-franchise after it was rebooted in 2019.

Note that Infinity Ward has had its hands full with Modern Warfare games since 2019 and hasn’t really created an original series since 2013’s Call of Duty Ghosts and 2016’s Call of Duty Infinite Warfare.

Perhaps Activision and its developers will experiment with yet another original franchise in the coming years, something that hasn’t happened since 2021’s Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Modern Warfare 4
Modern Warfare 4’s beta has been criticized by fans for a variety of gameplay issues.

Modern Warfare 4 launches in just over a month, so it will be interesting to see how the ‘finale to the rebooted Modern Warfare IP’ is received by the fans.
