- A new Marvel’s Wolverine update nerfs the scent trail and audio sense indicators.
- These indicators still can’t be turned off, which has caused a new wave of backlash for the studio.
- The team is exploring a toggleable option for these indicators for one of the future updates.
Marvel’s Wolverine launch has been quite controversial for Insomniac, which otherwise had a great run in the PS5 generation. The game holds a disappointingly low 6.4 user score, with many users complaining about the gameplay being too accessible for its own good.
The scent trail, which is described as one of Wolverine’s superpowers, has been the biggest point of contention for the game. However, Insomniac Games has now launched an update that nerfs the scent trail and audio sense indicators by reducing their intensity.
Why it matters: The reduced intensity of the scent trail and audio sense indicators will certainly help increase immersion for Marvel’s Wolverine. But Insomniac Games is still facing flak for not making the features toggleable yet.

The new hotfix v1.001.005 fixes some common crashes that a small number of players have faced since launch. However, the scent trails and audio sense indicator visuals are now less intense and opaque, making them look less of an eyesore for many players.
Our team continues to evaluate ways to further improve Senses in the game, including exploring toggleable options for a future update.

However, they still can’t be toggled yet. These indicators are not a part of the navigation assist accessibility setting since they have been integrated as part of Logan’s abilities. So, the team is still facing backlash despite the appreciation from some players after the hotfix.
Most of this backlash comes as Insomniac was confirmed to have collaborated with Sweet Baby Inc. for Marvel’s Wolverine, which reportedly influenced a lot of these accessibility features.

Regardless, the new Marvel’s Wolverine hotfix is a step in the right direction. The studio is also considering making the scent trail and audio sense indicators toggleable in one of the future updates, which would only increase the game’s immersion.
