“Wolverine Insults Players’ Intelligence” – Insomniac’s Latest Title Slammed For Being Way Too Accessible

Wolverine Holds The Player's Hand Way Too Much!

Story Highlight
  • Marvel’s Wolverine has received plenty of criticism recently, landing at a 77/100 Metacritic score.
  • The game’s accessibility is being criticized, mainly due to how it features several hints to help players navigate the environment.
  • QTEs in the game can’t be failed either, and most of the accessibility options are left on by default.

Marvel’s Wolverine has proven to be a rare miss in an otherwise incredible portfolio of single-player superhero titles for Insomniac Games.

The studio’s latest release marks one of PlayStation’s least popular releases among critics, many have had harsh criticisms to share for the title. Among the most popular points of contention, the game’s accessibility has been criticized quite a bit.

Why it matters: Apart from GTA 6, Marvel’s Wolverine marks the PS5’s biggest release in 2026, so Sony will undoubtedly be disappointed if the game ends up being a commercial disappointment.

Skill Up’s Marvel’s Wolverine review has garnered a lot of attention, specifically because of how the reviewer has criticized the overall experience’s handholding.

He highlights that the game features multiple on-the-nose clues to help players navigate environments that are strictly linear and not that large. On one hand, a massive blue trail linked to Wolverine’s sense is used to guide players move to their next objectives.

Similarly, Insomniac Games even adds a separate marker to this trail at times to remind players of the mandatory path. Logan also monologues as a way to remind players of the current objective after a combat encounter.

Finally, Marvel’s Wolverine uses the classic paint trick splattered across the environments during parkour segments. All of this has led to a lot of criticisms, with Skill Up saying that the title assumes its audience is stupid.

Wolverine is a design philosophy that assumes the player is extremely stupid.

Reviewers have also taken issue with the fact that quick-time events cannot be failed in Marvel’s Wolverine, and the game simply proceeds as usual, even if players ignore this part of the title.

Others have pointed out that Marvel’s Wolverine allows some of these settings to be turned off. However, they are all turned on by default, and the blue navigation trail, which reviewer Gene Park has dubbed the “fart gas,” cannot be turned off.

Ultimately, this is one part of why Marvel’s Wolverine is receiving a lot of criticism. The game is by no means terrible, but it offers a very standard superhero action game experience without doing much to set itself apart from the crowd.
