- Shuhei Yoshida recently recreated PlayStation’s old disc-sharing gag.
- The bit calls back to Sony’s 2013 PS4 video mocking Xbox One’s used-game restrictions.
- Ironically, the ad mocks PlayStation instead of Xbox this time around.
PlayStation’s decision to move on from physical games has been addressed by practically every industry professional by now. Among these, former PlayStation executives like Shawn Layden and Shuhei Yoshida have shared their two cents on the subject.
In a recent image however, the latter took to poke fun at this decision by recreating a moment from more than a decade ago.
Why it matters: PlayStation’s decision to skip physical games altogether from 2028 has certainly attracted a lot of attention, and not in the best way.

Ex-PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida has recreated the famous “game sharing” bit from the PS4 era, where sharing a game was shown as nothing more complicated than handing someone a disc.
The recreation immediately brought back memories of Sony’s brutal 2013 response to Microsoft’s original Xbox One plans, but there was one key difference in the recreation.
Instead of handing Adam Boyes a physical PS5 game, Shuhei Yoshida simply handed him nothing over, hinting at the lack of physical games moving forward. Many gamers in the comments enjoyed this reference to the past.
Some took the opportunity to further mock PlayStation, especially since fans and others aren’t too happy with the gaming giant’s decisions.
While this joke won’t do much to dissuade PlayStation from moving forward with an all-digital future, it does showcase the industry’s wider sentiment around the loss of physical games.
