Physical media is on a massive decline, with the vast majority of sales being digital over the last couple of years. GTA 6 kicked off the digital-only release, and Sony later announced that it is getting rid of all discs starting in 2028.
Amid all this, there were concerns that the highly anticipated Phantom Blade Zero would skip a physical release as well. However, a major Asian retailer has confirmed that the Chinese title is indeed not skipping a disc release.
Why it matters: Despite a huge portion of gamers now sticking to digital, there is still an audience for physical games who prefer ownership and love discs as part of their collection, so eliminating them isn’t a great idea.
Play Asia confirms physical edition

A Redditor mailed Play Asia, asking them whether the pre-orders they’ve opened are for physical or the digital edition. The retailer replied that the pre-orders they have are for the physical edition version that has a disc inside.
For context, Sony revealed that they would still be selling physical boxes, but they will come with codes, which defeats the whole purpose. However, Phantom Blade Zero does indeed come with a disc inside the box.
Fans will be delighted to hear it, as they were furious about the digital-only release. Nonetheless, S-Game hasn’t officially confirmed it yet, but they might soon, as a State of Play for the game is set to happen soon.
