- There were rumors that GTA 6 development budget had exceeded the $1.5 billion mark.
- Rockstar has denied the rumors, stating that it didn’t cost that much to develop.
- They didn’t reveal a number, but it is certainly the most expensive game of all time.
We didn’t know much about what went into developing arguably the most anticipated game of all time. Rockstar Games has finally broken its silence and, in a new interview, revealed key development details and its future plans.
One of the biggest mysteries around GTA 6 has been its budget. There have been claims that it reached $ 1.5B and even $2B. However, Rockstar has rejected the rumors and claimed that it didn’t exceed $1.5 billion.
Why it matters: It certainly means the game didn’t cost as much as the Burj Khalifa, but the studio hasn’t explicitly revealed the budget either, which, even if it isn’t the rumored amount, could be close to it.

In a detailed interview with Bloomberg, Rockstar Games revealed that the reports of a $1.5 billion budget for GTA 6 are false. It is certainly their most expensive game to date, but it didn’t cost as much as it is rumored.
In fact, it could and certainly is the most expensive video game ever created. Considering the scope, its budget would’ve easily exceeded a billion Dollars, which is what Star Citizen is currently at through its crowdfunding.

Rockstar also confirms that GTA 6 was formerly planned to be developed alongside Red Dead 2, but the game required all their effort. However, they also state that their next game won’t take another 8 years.
