Marvel's Wolverine Is The Second-Best Selling First-Party Title Of 2026.

Story Highlight
  • Marvel’s Wolverine has sold 2.5 million copies globally so far.
  • The game has grossed $250 million in revenue, becoming the second best-selling first-party title of 2026.
  • Over 50% of the players have also managed to finish the game’s story.

Marvel’s Wolverine hasn’t turned out to be the universal hit many expected it to be. Ever since launch, the game has been bashed continuously by fans online for its excessive accessibility, which insults the intelligence of the player base.

Even the creator of God of War has come out to criticise Marvel’s Wolverine, saying that the Insomniac title plays it too safe and is shockingly uninspiring. However, like other Marvel projects developed by Insomniac Games, the game is turning out to be a commercial success.

Why it matters: Even though the game has been the target of excessive criticism online, the Insomniac title has still managed to make a hefty profit for Sony.

According to data from Alinea Analytics, Marvel’s Wolverine has grossed $192.9 million in revenue so far, selling a whopping 2.5 million copies on the PS5. In the three weeks following the launch, the game has sold 500k more copies.

The analysts also revealed that Marvel’s Wolverine has managed to keep its players engaged, with two-thirds of the buyers playing at least 10 hours, and 54% putting in more than 15 hours. Therefore, more than half of the players have already finished the game’s story, considering its shorter length.

Despite Sony’s decision to end physical disc production, players have still bought a sizeable share of copies through physical media, with 31% of buyers opting for the physical medium for Marvel’s Wolverine. But the title still lags behind Forza Horizon 6 on the list of best-selling first-party projects this year.

Marvel's Wolverine Physical Disc
Marvel’s Wolverine’s Physical Disc was bought by one third of the players.

Considering how the game’s Metacritic user score nosedived to 6.4 at one point, with fans everywhere criticising Marvel’s Wolverine, this sales total isn’t too bad. However, the Insomniac project has to sell a whopping 6 million copies in the first year to be considered a success by Sony, and it is still far behind its intended target.

Do you think Marvel’s Wolverine will end up hitting its first-year sales target? Is the game going to be as successful as other Insomniac titles like Spider-Man? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
