SSD RMA Process Could Become Really Difficult!

Story Highlight
  • Warranty claims could become a lot harder as SK Hynix has run out of SSD replacements.
  • The company is now providing traditional refunds instead of replacing faulty storage.
  • The original price will be refunded, so you’ll have to buy the new one at the current high prices.

It seems like the memory crisis gets worse each time we hear about it. It has affected almost every major PC component, including RAM, SSDs, and graphics cards. However, we could soon be facing another major problem with the RMA process.

SSD warranty claims could soon become a nightmare as SK Hynix is reportedly running out of replacements. While they will resort to the traditional refund process, what good is that when you can’t buy new at normal prices.

Why it matters: Companies are now focusing more on AI businesses than on the customer, and with most of their stocks already booked in advance for the whole year, even the warranty claim is becoming difficult.

A user on Reddit reported that they sent their SSD for an RMA. SK Hynix stated that the warranty has been approved, but they don’t have any replacements, so they will instead refund them the original price of the drive.

While this seems like the right thing to do, keeping in mind the current industry situation, the customer is the one who is going to have a hard time. The original price they paid for the SSD might be a lot less than the current prices.

The refund could be a bad thing for the customer, as they’ll have to buy a new drive at new prices

The Redditor hasn’t revealed what the capacity was, but you might run into a similar issue with your RMA process too. So, for now, this could be a big problem, as a refund will mean you’ll have to buy them at the newer absurd prices
