Valve Finally Confirms Steam Machine MSRP!

Story Highlight

  • Valve has officially revealed the Steam Machine MSRPs.
  • The hardware starts at $1049 for the base variant, while the highest-end model costs as much as $1428.
  • Valve has also confirmed a June 30 release date for the hardware.

Much has been said about the price of the Steam Machine since its announcement. While many initially expected the PC-console hybrid to cost around $700, RAM pricing forced Valve’s hand, leading to grim predictions over the last few months.

Valve has now broken its silence on the matter, officially confirming the hardware’s launch MSRP. The Steam Machine starts at over $1000 for the base model.

Why it matters: Many saw the Steam Machine as potential PlayStation and Xbox competition when it was first announced. However, this price puts it well above current-gen consoles from both gaming giants.

The Hardware Arrives Later This Month

Valve has confirmed pricing for all models of the upcoming hardware, with the base Steam Machine starting at $1049. MSRPs for the other models via Twitter/X are listed below.

  • 512GB Model + Steam Controller $1128
  • 2TB Model Without Controller $1349
  • 2TB Model + Steam Controller $1428

Note that the 512GB model, which costs $1049, does not ship with Valve’s new Steam Controller. Fortunately, this may not be too big an issue since the PC-console hybrid does support other controllers and keyboard/mouse combos.

Anyhow, this announcement confirms suspicions that many had before the Steam Machine’s release. At over $1000, the hardware might be a much tougher sell for Valve than initially expected.

The Steam Machine Brings PC Gaming To A Wider Audience

Elsewhere, the company has confirmed a June 30 launch date for the PC-console hybrid.

Pre-orders for the Steam Machine will be available in just a few days, starting from June 25, giving users a chance to join a randomized reservation system, which Valve hopes will combat potential scalping amid scarce supply.
