The Last of Us franchise stands out as one of the hallmarks of PlayStation, according to many gamers. It has seen several remasters over the last few years, but that’s all the studio has released since the PS5 generation started.

Naughty Dog is now celebrating The Last of Us Part 2’s 6th anniversary on Twitter, with many fans also joining in the congratulations. However, a slew of comments have called out the studio about a lack of new games in over six years.

Why it matters: Naughty Dog is considered one of Sony’s best cinematic single-player game makers, boasting franchises like The Last of Us and Uncharted. However, its lacking portfolio for over half a decade has plummeted its reputation.

However, it’s not like the team hasn’t been developing new games over the years. The Last of Us was supposed to get an online counterpart, which was canned in December 2023. It was 80% completed, so its cancellation proved to be a severe setback for the developers.
