God of War’s last mainline entry launched all the way back in 2022, but with the reveal of the God of War trilogy remakes, the series has had a few exciting moments since then.
Rumors also pointed to a new mainline title featuring Faye from the Norse saga, and sure enough, PlayStation has not disappointed with its latest State of Play. God of War Laufey has now been officially announced.
Why it matters: The God of War franchise is practically synonymous with the PlayStation brand and has sold millions of copies across multiple console generations.
God of War Laufey has just debuted in an action-packed gameplay trailer, highlighting the first big entry for the series in many years. Interestingly enough, this footage shows around 20 minutes of uncut gameplay.
Santa Monica Studio has shared plenty of new details about the title in the first trailer. As expected, Faye takes up most of the runtime as she finds herself in a twisted world with creatures from different mythologies.
God of War Laufey has also shown a glimpse at the evolution of Santa Monica Studios’ gameplay formula from 2018. Faye is shown to be quite agile and strong, setting the stage for yet another exciting outing for the series.

In terms of gameplay, God of War Laufey appears to be more similar to the classic games while preserving the style of the latest titles. The footage also shows that the game picks up right after Kratos burns his wife’s ashes in the 2018 title.
More information about God of War Laufey is expected to arrive in the coming months. For now, fans can find more information on the official PlayStation Blog.
