Why it matters: Blizzard does not typically announce games this far in advance, but the team has used BlizzCon 2026 to build excitement for Diablo 5.

Of course, the game is still extremely early in development, so fans don’t have much to go on. The announcement, however, confirms a very important detail for longtime fans, noting that Diablo himself is set to return in a central role.
In fact, it is said that Sanctuary has fallen and Diablo has won in the upcoming title. Since the game is aiming for a 2029 launch, this gives Blizzard around 3 more years of development time.
The team will also continue to support Diablo 4 till then as it continues to focus on the IP as one of its most important.
BlizzCon 2026 also saw the team confirming a new StarCraft shooter. However, like Diablo 5, this game won’t be launched for a while either.
