- Playground Games has stated that Forza Horizon 6 won’t launch on PS5 on day 1.
- Instead, it will be a timed exclusive on Microsoft’s hardware, like Xbox and PCs.
- This indicates that Microsoft continues to prioritize its Xbox hardware, despite recent reports.
Playground games just revealed the brand new installment to its critically acclaimed franchise, Forza Horizon 6. The title is slated for a 2026 release, but despite being confirmed for PS5, the wait will be a bit longer for Team Blue.
The studio has confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will first release on Xbox and PC. Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are also working on a PS5 port, but that will arrive later down the line.
Why it matters: Forza Horizon 5 was a massive success on PS5. Despite launching alongside Death Stranding 2, it managed to outsell Kojima’s game on the platform, so fans were expecting a day 1 launch for the successor.
There were many rumors that Xbox could launch its games day 1 on the PS5, but they are still keeping them as timed exclusives. While it is true that Forza Horizon 6 will arrive on the PlayStation, it will first be available to Microsoft’s users.
With various reports suggesting that Xbox is exiting the console market, this is a positive sign that Microsoft still values its hardware. Although PS5 is still the default choice for most gamers, this will incline some towards Xbox as well.
Nonetheless, it is beneficial to see healthy competition in the market, as it is always good for consumers. Forza Horizon 6 will feature a Japanese setting, and the studio has revealed it will showcase the detailed gameplay in early 2026.
