Hyper Violence And Gore In Wolverine Spells Trouble For Insomniac!

Story Highlight
  • Insomniac has released brand new footage of Marvel’s Wolverine with plenty of blood and gore.
  • Several users report that the game’s trailer cannot be viewed without age verification in the UK and various other parts of Europe.
  • Due to the mass censorship of content online, Marvel’s Wolverine could face scrutiny by the time it launches in Fall 2026.

Marvel’s Wolverine has finally returned after its initial reveal all the way back in 2021. Following a slew of leaks and not-so-impressive footage, the game has blown PlayStation fans away with its latest appearance.

In particular, Insomniac’s focus on Wolverine’s violent and gore-filled combat has received praise from audiences. However, this element seems to have landed the title in trouble already, with users reporting censorship of the game online.

Why it matters: The UK’s recent age verification laws have already changed the digital landscape, and it’s only a matter of time before other big countries follow.

As shared on Twitter, users in the UK cannot see the Marvel’s Wolverine trailer without an age-verified account.

In his latest post, Ben noted that his alternate Twitter account without age verification simply omitted a post containing the trailer altogether. Interestingly, this tweet attracted replies from users sharing a similar experience.

According to their reports, Twitter cites local laws when restricting the trailer, raising concerns for the future of Marvel’s Wolverine.

Due to local laws, we are temporarily restricting access to this content.

Because there is concern about certain games facing censorship and bans in the UK, Marvel’s Wolverine could find itself in hot water next year. The game is doing everything it can to turn violence and gore up a notch, so the UK’s age verification laws might lead to an interesting situation for Insomniac’s upcoming release.

If other countries also follow in the UK’s footsteps next year, censorship worldwide could become a major hurdle for an otherwise exceptional-looking title.

Interestingly, users outside the UK have reported seeing similar messages when attempting to view the trailer. They believe Twitter’s censorship of blood and gore is to blame for the situation.

The game is still unlikely to move away from its bloody nature, but recent censorship laws seem to have put Insomniac in a tricky position.
