2025 marked a year full of awesome games with great Metacritic scores. We’ve had titles like Split Fiction, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Death Stranding 2, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but one title has managed to tower above them all.
Hades 2 reviews just came out, and it has managed to surpass Clair Obscur as the best-rated game of the year. It currently has an overall Metacritic score of 94, which is the highest of 2025, not counting Zelda Switch 2 editions.
Why it matters: The original Hades, released in 2020, was also a critically acclaimed title with a 93 score, so expectations from the sequel were high as well, and it has surely managed to deliver.
Previously, Clair Obscur held the throne for best-rated title of the year with a 93, but now Hades 2 has pushed it off and taken its place. It does currently have fewer reviews than the latter, so the number could change.
However, it isn’t expected to drop as the game already has ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews on Steam, indicating that it has received universal love across the audience as well as the critics.
Just in its early access, it managed to capture a hugely satisfied audience. Players state that Hades 2 takes everything good from the original game and dials it up a notch, including characters, gameplay, and attention to detail.
All in all, Hades 2 will undoubtedly be an even bigger hit when it leaves its early access today. It will, for now, be available on PC and Nintendo Switch, and there is no word of a PlayStation or Xbox version.
