Teamgroup launched G70 and G70 Pro series NVMe SSDs back in 2024 in various configurations using DRAM cache and SLC caching along with options for aluminum heatsink or Graphene heat spreaders. These SSDs are available from 512GB to 4TB capacities. These employed the InnoGrits “Rainier” IG5236 controller.
We are testing the G70 Pro 4 TB NVMe SSD. This SSD comes with a 0.5mm Graphene thermal pad for effective heat transfer. The 4TB variant is listed at USD 280 and it comes with a five-year warranty.
Key Takeaways
- The G70 Pro 4TB NVMe SSD delivers up to 7400MB/s read and 6600MB/s write speeds, featuring a Graphene thermal pad for efficient heat management.
- You should buy the G70 Pro if you’re not constrained by budget and want a top-performing SSD that works seamlessly with the PlayStation 5.
- You should skip the G70 Pro if you’re exploring more affordable options.

How Is This Drive Different?
Teamgroup has employed an InnoGrits Controller on this series instead of Maxio or Phison. The NAND Flash and DRAM are from Micron. I am not sure about the configuration on G70. This series of SSDs is competitive against the Phison-based drives while costing less.
Packaging And Unboxing
The drive is shipped inside a paperboard packing box that has a black color theme. The drive and other items are packed inside a transparent container. The following are provided:
- 1x SSD
- 1x Graphene Pad
Design
The graphene pad does not come pre-installed over SSD from the factory. That is why, you can see the components of the SSD. This is a single-side design because all components are on one side of the PCB. This SSD has a dimension of 22x80x3.7mm with the Graphene thermal pad.
The Graphene pad has a stylish black color theme with G70 Pro text. This SSD is from the T-Force series. The 3.7mm thickness makes this SSD compatible with Sony Play Station 5. This is a PCIe Gen 4×4 drive using an NVMe 2.0 interface. The drive has an M.2 2280 form factor using M Key Type.
A sticker can be seen on the backside showing the part number and serial number of the drive along with its capacity which is 4TB.
The drive supports S.M.A.R.T, TRIM, E.C.C, Wear Leveling, and LDPC features. The provision of TRIM and active garbage collection helps in providing durability.
What About The Components?
The Pro series G70 comes with DRAM chips whereas the non-Pro version does not have DRAM and solely relies on SLC caching. This SSD is driven by InnoGrits “Rainier” IG5236 controller. It is based on ARM 32-bit Cortex-R5 Quad-Core and supports 8 flash channels at 1200 MT/s.
The 3D TLC NAND Flash is from Micron. These are Micron B47R FortisFlash LGLM01TB4BCB1 TLC 176-layer package. The SSD has two flash chips each of 2TB. The DRAM chip is also from Micron. It is a Micron DDR4-3200 with 2048MB capacity.
Testing
The below below-mentioned test build is used:
- Intel i7 13700k
- DeepCool LQ360
- MSI Z790 ACE MAX WiFi
- XPG Lancer RGB DDR5 7200MHz CL34 Kit
- Intel Arc B580 [For Display]
- Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 2TB NVMe SSD [OS Drive]
- Fractal Design ION+ 2 860W Platinum PSU
- Thermaltake Core P6 TG Snow Edition in an open frame layout
We have used the following software:
- ATTO Disk Benchmark
- CrystalDiskMark
- Anvil Pro Storage Utilities 1.1.0
- 3DMARK Storage Benchmark
- PCMARK10 Storage Benchmark
Microsoft Windows 11 23H2 is used for the testing.
Test Results
The Teamgroup G70 Pro 4TB has passed the sequential read and write speeds. This SSD has a competitive performance across the board in our testing.
Thermals
The Graphene heat spreader in conjunction with the aluminum heat sink cover of the motherboard works perfectly as evident in the graph.
Should You Buy It?
Buy It If
✅You are looking for a high-speed drive: The Teamgroup G70 Pro 4TB NVMe SSD is rated for up to 7400MB/s and 6600MB/s sequential read and write respectively.
✅You want more storage for PS5: This SSD has a height or thickness of 3.7mm making it compatible with PS5 for storage expansion.
✅You prefer a DRAM-enabled SSD: The G70 Pro uses Micron DRAM chips (2048 MB). Having an on-board DRAM chip is helpful in better caching. This SSD also uses SLC caching in addition to sustained write bursts.
Don’t Buy It If
❌You are on a budget: The G70 Pro series NVMe SSDs carry a bit high price tag compared to the G70 non-Pro. If you are on budget then take a look at G70 NVMe SSDs.
Final Words
We have tested Teamgroup G70 Pro 4TB NVME SSD. This series of SSDs is available in 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities. The G70 series drives feature DRAM-Less configuration whereas the G70 Pro series feature a Micron DRAM chip. Besides, these drives come with either an aluminum heatsink or a Graphene heat spreader.
The G70 Pro 4TB is powered by InnoGrits “Rainier” IG5236 controller. It is based on ARM 32-bit Cortex-R5 Quad-Core and supports 8 flash channels at 1200 MT/s. The 3D TLC NAND Flash is from Micron in the form of B47R FortisFlash LGLM01TB4BCB1 TLC 176-layer package. The DARM is Micron DDR4-3200 in 2048MB capacity.
This SSD comes with a Graphene thermal pad for effective heat transfer and has a dimension of 22x80x3.7mm making it compatible with Sony Play Station 5. This drive features TRIM, S.M.A.R.T, E.C.C. LDPC, Wear Leveling, and SLC Caching. This drive is using NVMe 1.4 standard over the PCIe 4 x4 link speed.
This drive is rated for 7400MB/s sequential read and 6600MB/s sequential write. It has 2960 TBW with an MTBF of 3,000,000 hours. This SSD is fast and passes the sequential ratings on the fly. This SSD has a consistent and competitive performance in our testing.
