PC Gaming Reigns Supreme Today!

Story Highlight
  • PC gaming is constantly growing, and new polls reveal insight into its current popularity.
  • The platform has been picked as the fan-favorite across multiple polls with thousands of voters.
  • PlayStation finished in second place in these polls.

There has always been a rivalry between console and PC players over which platform is better. While the former typically comes out on top due to its many hardware advantages, consoles are considered the more mainstream gaming option due to their accessibility.

However, PC gaming has grown remarkably in recent years, giving it more of a chance to rival consoles. In fact, major polls reveal that most gamers prefer the platform over consoles today.

Why it matters: The industry has evolved in multiple ways, and consoles no longer boast a clear lead over the competition.

Major Poll From Gamsecom Reveals Interesting Results About Audience Preferences | Image via Twitter

Gamescom recently asked its followers to vote on the most popular gaming platforms. This included the big three console manufacturers and PC, with the latter coming out on top.

While the consoles combined still proved overwhelming for PC, this platform took the lead individually. With over 44% of the 2,685 votes, it secured a comfortable lead over PlayStation, which finished in second place with 32.3%.

Similar results were observed in different polls on Reddit, indicating that audiences enjoy the freedom of PC gaming over the limited capabilities of consoles. Still, it is important to note that these polls likely reflect the preferences of enthusiast gamers.

This is evident by the position of Nintendo’s hardware in the polls despite the Nintendo Switch selling well over 138 million units since its release.

Overall, it’s clear that PC gaming is on the rise worldwide. Even with the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X selling millions of units, both PlayStation and Xbox are releasing their titles on the platform.

The gaming giants see this market as a lucrative segment in which to expand their business and reach a whole new audience.

Gaming on PC typically comes with unique benefits like emulation, higher-end hardware, and a bigger library. This is just scratching the surface of everything the platform has to offer, so it has more than earned its popularity.
