The gaming industry has been quiet for a while, as there hasn’t been much news. So, fans were excited for Summer Game Fest as it promised many reveals. The show had reveals like the Alan Wake 2 DLC, Black Myth: Wukong, Phantom Blade Zero, and Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
However, the event was two hours long, and not much else caught everyone’s interest. Indie games dominated the livestream, and it seems Geoff Keighley failed to impress audiences.
Summer Game Fest’s host recently hosted a poll asking people how they would grade the show. Most of the fandom rated it D or below, meaning they didn’t enjoy the show.
Why it matters: Fans went into the show with much higher expectations but were ultimately disappointed.
Over 40% of the players have voted for the D or below option. According to Geoff, the YouTube livestream peaked at 37% more viewers than last year’s show. However, that brought much more criticism, too, which can clearly be seen in the poll.
26.7% of fans think that the show was a C, which is still average. As expected, only 9% think that it was A tier. The poll is based on over 250K votes, so this result seems fair enough for an evaluation.
The show was indeed underwhelming, and the fans were left unhappy. Summer Game Fest has never been the most exciting showcase, but this year’s event is being called one of the worst ones to date.
Some fans have even called it the indie games show.
Over on Twitter, various comments have made memes about Geoff Keighley’s reactions after the poll. However, one person made a valid point.
He stated that Geoff should host two polls: one for the show, which would cover how fans liked the production, and one for the content, which would cover the announcements.
The former was still good, even if fans didn’t enjoy every announcement. Geoff replied, “Totally fair,” and to us, this seemed like the best take on the poll so far.
Due to this underwhelming live event, fans have high expectations for the Xbox Games Showcase. Last year’s Xbox showcase was already great, but the upcoming one is shaping up to be even better.
