It's A Scary Time to Be An Xbox Employee!

Story Highlight
  • Halo Studios has been hit with layoffs as part of the ongoing Xbox layoffs.
  • The team has been affected just a few days after launching Halo Campaign Evolved.
  • Developers previously revealed that no one at Xbox Studios feels any job security.

Xbox released the much-anticipated Halo Campaign Evolved to a not-so-great reception. Despite being a top seller, the game launched with the lowest player count in the series, and the reviews also tell the same sad story.

Now, right after the launch of Campaign Evolved, Microsoft has started layoffs at the Halo Studios. Multiple employees confirmed that they have been let go from the studio just a few days after the release of the remake.

Why it matters: Halo’s debut on PS5 should’ve been a fairy tale, but in reality it has completely flopped. Just 1% of the console’s entire fan base was interested in the title, signalling a grim future for the franchise.

Halo Studios has started layoffs a few days after launching Campaign Evolved

Campaign Evolved is by no means a success, and has apparently only sold 1.5 million units so far, but even then, laying off employees just after they delivered a new title is brutal and something that has become synonymous with Xbox.

Nick Treitman, who worked as a producer at Halo Studios, took to LinkedIn to announce that he has been removed from the studio as part of the ongoing layoffs. Others also took to the platform to announce their exits.

The title hasn’t been received well by both the new and long-time fans

This is a rather dark time to be working at Xbox, as you aren’t safe at all. There will be over 3,000 layoffs in total, and they have been described as the worst layoff event in history, and things are turning from bad to worse.
