But Development On The Port Seems To Be Underway!

Story Highlight
  • Red Dead Redemption has yet to arrive on PC.
  • Recent information on Rockstar Games’ website hinted that the remastered version could be headed to PC.
  • An insider now suggests that the strings for a PC version were pushed too early, so the game will likely arrive on the platform later.

Red Dead Redemption 2 raised the bar for open-world games with its beautiful visuals and world-building, so nearly everyone has finished it many times.

Many fans, particularly on PC, are now waiting for its predecessor to finally go through John Marston’s story. Recent rumblings hinted that a version of Red Dead Redemption Remastered was in development for PC.

However, with no official announcement several weeks later, fans have been left confused. An insider has now offered clarification, claiming that the PC port is unlikely to arrive anytime soon.

Why it matters: The PC platform has proven to be just as big, if not bigger, than modern consoles. Therefore, Rockstar Games would leave money on the table by not porting this entry to the platform.

Red Dead Redemption’s PC Release Has Been A Long Time Coming

Tez2, the same insider who originally reported on Rockstar Games’ update two weeks ago, has now stated that this confusion may have been a result of the studio making internal changes to its launcher.

He suggests that Red Dead Redemption’s strings have likely been added to the dev build, so the news broke out much sooner than it should have. The good news is that it seems a PC version will come sooner or later.

With GTA 6 coming in the Fall of 2025, there’s a large gap in Rockstar Games’ lineup till then. Therefore, the team could use Red Dead Redemption’s PC port to make the wait for GTA 6 a bit less painful.

Red Dead Redemption Has Been Playable On PC Through Emulation Since Last Year

Although this may be disappointing for fans, one thing seems certain: Rockstar Games is working on the PC port.

The Red Dead franchise has been going strong for over 20 years. However, PC gamers have yet to gain access to this series in its entirety, making this port an important title for the future.

For now, the best bet is to use an emulator to play the game on a PC. Thanks to Xenia, RPCS3, and the many Nintendo Switch emulators, the game can be played quite well enough on the platform already.
