EA Hoping To Compete With COD Warzone!

Story Highlight
  • EA previously introduced a battle royale mode in Battlefield 5.
  • A credible insider has revealed that the next Battlefield entry will feature a free-to-play battle royale mode.
  • EA hopes to compete with Warzone through this move.

EA has yet to redeem itself with the Battlefield franchise after the publisher disappointed with recent releases like Battlefield 2042.

The next game seems to rectify many of the problems found in recent entries. With a focus on destruction and classic elements, EA is expected to return to basics for the next release. However, it is also looking to introduce a battle royale mode.

Why it matters: Battle-royale modes, while still popular, are no longer the most exciting thing on the market. Therefore, this is an interesting decision from EA, which could end up going either way.

This information comes from Insider Gaming. The reliable Tom Henderson states that EA’s next battle royale mode for the franchise will be a free-to-play offering.

Insider Gaming has learned via its sources that the next Battlefield game will go back to its roots. In addition to better destruction, it will feature 64-player matches and the classic four-class system that fans have come to enjoy.

The main reason for EA’s free-to-play approach has to do with the competition from Call of Duty. Warzone is among the biggest battle royale titles on the market, so Battlefield using a similar approach might end up beneficial for EA.

In the past, DICE and EA already tried to offer a battle royale based on the franchise. Battlefield Firestorm debuted in 2019, but it required a purchase of the base game, leading to an untimely demise.

While this is a promising approach, it works for Call of Duty due to its massive fandom and solid gameplay. So, for EA to succeed with this tactic, it will have to bring back the iconic Battlefield experience that helped it garner a massive fandom for the series many years ago.

Nonetheless, we think EA using the F2P approach for its next Battlefield game is an interesting idea. While the game’s release date hasn’t been revealed, it is expected to arrive in 2025.
