First Assassin’s Creed To Feature Battle Pass!

Story Highlight
  • A reliable leaker states Assassin’s Creed Red will be the first game to launch as part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
  • The latter will offer cosmetic purchases for Assassin’s Creed Red, in addition to frequent Battle Passes.
  • Ubisoft is expected to release a new mainline entry every two years moving forward.

An Assassin’s Creed Red reveal is imminent as we head into the second quarter of 2024. Through leaks and rumors, various details on the game have already come out, including information about Ubisoft’s investment in the game.

A new report from Insider Gaming outlines further details about this project, elaborating on its connection with Assassin’s Creed Infinity. With the latter serving as a live-service hub, it will offer elements like a Battle Pass for Assassin’s Creed Red.

Why it matters: Single-player games do not traditionally include Battle Passes since audiences are not fond of publishers and developers attempting to blur the line between live service and offline experiences.

Leaker Tom Henderson is back with more details about Ubisoft’s next anticipated Assassin’s Creed RPG.

In his new report, he states that Assassin’s Creed Infinity will launch alongside Assassin’s Creed Red. The former was previously described as a hub for Ubisoft’s series, adding elements of live service to the IP.

While the latter is a primarily single-player game, it will be complemented by ‘The Exchange,’ an item shop containing cosmetic purchases for the game’s two protagonists, Yasuke and Naoe.

This item shop will be updated with new cosmetic items consistently. Meanwhile, Projects will serve as Ubisoft’s take on the Battle Pass for the Japanese entry, offering smaller stories with cosmetic rewards for completion.

Ubisoft is reportedly targeting a launch for new games in the IP every two years, with Assassin’s Creed Infinity positioned at the center of these titles. If this ends up being the case, Assassin’s Creed Red should be supported with new content for two years.

While a Battle Pass is not inherently harmful, Ubisoft’s decision to include it in a single-player offering might raise a few eyebrows.

Fans have wanted the franchise to tackle a Japanese setting for the longest time. Ubisoft is also aware of these demands, so the publisher is unlikely to make rushed decisions that could harm the project.

Still, this move is certainly out of the ordinary, making it a risky decision.

The report also delves into other Ubisoft projects, teasing a remake besides Assassin’s Creed 4. However, most of those projects are several years away for now, with the Japanese-themed entry being the next major title from the studio.
