- The Witcher 4 will see the return of Geralt of Rivia to the franchise.
- CDPR is yet to confirm if he will be the main character or a side character.
- The game targets both new and returning players to the beloved franchise.
The Witcher 4 or ‘Codename Polaris’ has been the main focus for CDPR ever since the Phantom Liberty DLC came out to shining reviews.
This title is receiving undivided attention from the studio as over 50% of the staff is working on it. Despite this attention, the RPG is quite a few years away, but we just got some brand-new information.
According to CDPR, Geralt will return in the next mainline entry.
Why it matters: The Witcher 3 has been CDPR’s best-seller ever since its release, and part of its appeal has to do with Geralt. The White Wolf’s return means that fans will get a new look into his narrative.
Speaking to Lega Nerd, director Sebastian Kalemb shared information on Geralt’s involvement in the next game.
For the fans of the much-loved protagonist, Geralt of Rivia’s saga continues with Project Polaris. However, his stature as the main character has not been revealed yet. The director said:
“It’ll be an excellent entry point for many players, without forgetting the long-time fans who still wish to follow Geralt’s adventures.”
There were rumors that Ciri might be the protagonist of the next Witcher game, which, in theory, could still turn out to be true.
Since Geralt’s story was pretty much concluded with the third entry, his role could be much smaller in the fourth mainline game. Ciri is still a Witcher in training and could be a vital part of the next game.
Furthermore, since Vesemir is dead, we would love to see Geralt take on the role of a mentor and a more fatherly figure. CDPR concluded his story brilliantly and they shouldn’t risk it by doing anything that might upset the fans.
Still, fans will be glad to know that an iconic character will not be left out of the upcoming RPG.
Additionally, CDPR confirmed The Witcher 4 is being developed in a way that caters to both the returning and the new players. This will be valuable to the team since more people than ever are interested in the studio’s work after Cyberpunk 2077.
CDPR has ambitions to set new records with The Witcher 4. The Witcher 3 was revolutionary as it inspired a whole generation of RPGs, setting a benchmark in gaming that holds up to this day.
