- Starfield received praise from many in the start but ended up having mixed reviews on Steam.
- With more than 30% of reviews on Steam being negative, Bethesda Customer Support has taken it upon themselves to defend the game.
Starfield is one of the biggest launches of 2023 that received a positive reception from critics. While it had a good launch, the game wasn’t nominated for the Game of the Year award in 2023.
Contrary to the critical reception, the game has mixed reviews on Steam. This makes it the worst-rated release from Bethesda, but the company is not backing down from supporting its RPG.
Bethesda Customer Support has begun responding to the negative reviews on Steam.
Why it matters: Starfield is still being worked on, with the studio leaving 250 developers to support it post-release. Therefore, customer support might be looking to change the perception around the game.
Bethesda is responding to negative Starfield reviews on Steam. Absolutely bizarre if you ask me and despite media attention this hasn't stopped, the last response is from today pic.twitter.com/ay589tg8cc

X/Twitter user JuiceHead33 recently noticed that Bethesda is replying to the negative Starfield reviews. The user also pointed out that these replies are coming from the customer support division.
According to the responses, Bethesda is asking players to consider the amount of effort going into things behind the scenes. While many players criticized excessive loading screens, the developers stated that there is a lot of work that is being done in those few seconds.
Customer support also responded to the criticism around barren planets, claiming that some of the planets are empty by design to bring them closer to real life. JuiceHead33 shared three different responses from November 2, 9, and 27.
Both respondents are tagged as official developers by Steam, but it is quite rare to see a studio directly addressing negative reviews on a public platform like Steam.
While Starfield can feel outdated at times, it seems customer support is more than happy to explain a few of the infuriating decisions made by the studio.
Our take on this is that it is understandable for the studio to defend a game it worked so hard on. The RPG came about after years of work, so they might not be too happy with the current reception.
Still, such reviews can be beneficial for Bethesda and its latest release. With the title being designed for long-term support, Starfield could become a vastly superior game through updates and patches.
