The Witcher 4 Console Port Prioritized Following Cyberpunk 2077 Launch

Console Version Is Already Being Tested!

Cyberpunk 2077 was in development for many years, but the game was released unpolished and broken. This resulted in backlash and a reputation hit for CDPR, but several years later, the game is in a much better state.

New content like Phantom Liberty has received a positive reception, and over 500K people have left positive reviews for the game on Steam. CDPR has redeemed Cyberpunk 2077 and hopes to use this as a lesson for The Witcher 4.

Why it matters: Since the studio has already stumbled with its latest project, it will likely receive even more criticism if the same mistakes are repeated again.

The Witcher 3

During the Inven Game Conference, Colin Walder from CDPR said:

“It’s about ensuring we’re on top of certain things from the start.”

In particular, the studio has confirmed more effort is being put into the console version of the next Witcher game.

Comparing this project to Cyberpunk 2077, the developer stated that console reviews and demos are already being conducted. In the past, CDPR focused on consoles during the latter part of development.

This step means that the team has already begun to implement the lessons learned after Cyberpunk 2077. While a poor launch led to a morale hit for the team, the Polish developers have made sure to learn valuable lessons from the past few years.

The Witcher 3 is still the studio’s biggest release, having sold over 50 million units. Therefore, the team is making sure the next entry in the franchise lives up to the anticipation of fans worldwide.

Witcher 4

At release, Cyberpunk 2077 showed poor performance and visual quality across the PS4 and Xbox One consoles. However, it was also limited by nearly 7-year-old hardware by the time it was released.

This will no longer be a problem for The Witcher 4 since the team has access to much more powerful hardware. Combining this hardware with extensive testing should deliver much better results than the developer’s last release.

We believe CDPR will not let fans down a second time. The studio has learned all the right lessons, using Cyberpunk 2077 to grow into a more determined and focused team. Following the recent Cyberpunk 2077 content, we cannot wait to learn more about The Witcher 4 and the future of this franchise.
