Lords of the Fallen Launches To Thousands of Negative Steam Reviews

Over 2.5K Negative Reviews Already!

Lords of the Fallen was shaping up to be another successful Souls-like in 2023 after the game showed stunning gameplay based on Unreal Engine 5.

Following up on Lies of P, the game had a high bar to meet, and while the critics appear to be mostly pleased by it, Steam users have begun to show their displeasure with the PC port.

Lords of the Fallen has already gathered over 4K user reviews on Steam, and 49% of the reviews are negative.

Why it matters: Incomplete and buggy releases have become a trend in the gaming industry, and the latest Souls-like is just one example of many releases that highlight this trend.

At the time of writing, Lords of the Fallen has mixed reviews on Steam. The game has over 2.5K negative reviews just one day after its launch on the platform.

Judging from the reviews, the primary issue appears to be the game’s poor optimization. Lords of the Fallen promised to utilize Unreal Engine 5 for next-gen visuals, but it was always expected to be a bit rough around the edges.

Since Unreal Engine 5 is a new technology, developers are currently struggling to optimize it for mainstream hardware. Nonetheless, this choice has resulted in unsatisfied customers on Steam.

The game has been dubbed Lords of the Crashing by many, with persistent crashing issues apart from the poor performance. Others have pointed out that it fails to live up to FromSoftware’s games.

Lords of the Fallen also boasted a seamless multiplayer before release. However, this part of the game has not lived up to expectations, becoming another disappointment for players on Steam.

We find it disappointing that another PC game has been released in a poor state this year. However, we hope CI Games continues to support the Souls-like, making it a game worth playing in the coming months.

It appears the industry is still far from mastering the complex Unreal Engine 5, and mainstream usage of this technology may take a few more years.

Aside from the negative reviews, the game has had an impressive launch. It is currently the best-selling title on Steam, beating many big releases like EA Sports FC 24.

The game has also launched to over 43K concurrent players, making it more popular than the likes of Mortal Kombat 1.
