New First-Party Studios Added To Xbox!

Following a long and arduous journey, Microsoft has finally reached new heights. Xbox was recently given the green light to buy Activision Blizzard by the CMA. Several hours later, Phil Spencer confirms the merger has been concluded.

Therefore, Activision and its studios are now under the Xbox umbrella.

Why it matters: This acquisition required a massive $68.7 billion investment from Microsoft. However, it makes Xbox one of the biggest publishers in the gaming industry.

Hours after the CMA’s decision, Microsoft and its executives have taken to Twitter, celebrating this momentous occasion. Phil Spencer, in particular, has expressed great joy at this achievement.

The Xbox boss has worked relentlessly over the past 20 months, hoping to convince regulators and competitors that Xbox will help the larger gaming industry through this move. Outlining future ambitions, Phil Spencer stated:

“As one team, we’ll learn, innovate, and continue to bring the joy of gaming to more people.”

Following the announcement, Xbox is the official home of Call of Duty, Candy Crush, Diablo, and much more.

Activision’s long history also means that Xbox now has access to several dormant IPs waiting to be revived. Earlier this week, the Activision CEO already hinted at a potential revival of Rock Band, while Xbox hinted at a resurgence of StarCraft.

Therefore, the future appears to be extremely bright for both gaming giants.

We will use this occasion to congratulate Xbox and its first-party studios.

The gaming giant’s commitment to the industry has helped it grow in meaningful ways recently, promoting healthy competition. We hope this merger will prove a successful endeavor for Microsoft and allow it to thrive in the industry.

With the acquisition completed, Microsoft will look toward the future. This future involves a major push for mobile gaming, new releases like Gears 6 and Hellblade 2, and the expansion of the gaming ecosystem to millions of new players.
