The Nintendo Switch 2 is rapidly approaching its release. While the console remains to be confirmed, job listings related to DLSS and leaks from Xbox have confirmed the console’s existence.
Earlier reports claimed that Nintendo plans to release the console in the second half of 2024. Another leaker has shared information about the release window, claiming that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be out by September 2024.
Why it matters: The Nintendo Switch is on its way out after a highly successful run in the gaming industry, leading to excitement for the upcoming console release.
As shared by members of Resetera, an insider from Discord has shared new information about the Nintendo Switch 2. Previously, the insider leaked screenshots of Team Ninja’s next game, Rise of the Ronin, and pointed to a DLC for God of War Ragnarok.
The leaker’s latest scoop points to two different models for the Nintendo Switch 2. It appears Nintendo will be following Microsoft and Sony, launching a digital-only console for a lower price.
According to the source, the Nintendo Switch 2 Digital will be priced at $400, while the physical model will cost $450. Though this is a much smaller price difference than the PlayStation or Xbox models, the Nintendo Switch is unlikely to use discs.
Therefore, the physical model will not be as expensive for Nintendo. The leaker also mentioned a September release window for the console, so Nintendo fans can expect to learn more in the coming months.
The $400 price point, while not too high, would put the Nintendo Switch 2 in direct competition with the PS5. We think this may be a bit more expensive than the ideal price, but Nintendo’s legacy IPs will provide a compelling reason to buy the console.
Like the last generation, Nintendo could lower prices through a portably-only or ‘Lite’ model, but this remains to be seen.
As Nintendo enthusiasts anticipate the gaming giant’s next console, the company’s President recently confirmed prolonged support for the current console. The Nintendo Switch will receive software and games till March 2025, highlighting that it still has a lot of life left.
